If you purchase a no-power required external antenna (read rabbit ears) you will get better reception, very acceptable as a matter of fact. However after speaking with the manufacturer, as of Feb 2009, without purchasing a seperate digital converter, you will have a "nice paperweight"...their words not mine.
A seperate digital converter defeats the battery power option as the converters are all 110v... Be very careful buying now and specifically ask if the unit can process digital signals as is and will operate properly come Feb 2009
