Cure for the Common Life by Max Lucado (2006, Hardcover)

The book, Cure for the Common Life by Max Lucado, is an excellent book about finding the "sweet spot" of your life then working and living in it. It is a manual for a better life. Connecting the God's purpose and uniqueness in your life makes work, marriage and other relationship so much sweeter. The book was in excellent condition, as described by the seller. I appreciate the study guide at the end of the book for added application. The book is a good one to share with teenagers and adults. I plan to purchase copies for family members.

I am a collector of Max Lucado's books and have found no bad ones yet. He has a way of writing that draws the normal "Joe" into it before he even begins to read the first page! I was drawn to this one because I have always been looking for that "special" reason of why I am here or what I was put here for. If any author can get some type of answer across to me, it will be Lucado.

I love books, which is why I deal in books. I opened one of Lucado's up when I first received it and was hooked! Although he was of a different denomination than I (I have visited the church, though), I never felt there was any difference in our beliefs. Anyone can relate to his books and enjoy them. I now collect any and all of his books - children, too, as I have grandchildren that are about to be old enough for the young children books.

Although I have not had a chance to read this book, I have glanced through it and yes - it is as captivating and mesmerizing as all of his books are. I am sure I will finish it with a feeling of satisfaction as I have always done. If you enjoy reading an easily read Christian book that will leave you feeling good, then try one of Lucado's. You can't go wrong!

I normally enjoy reading Max Lucado, but this one's not his best, in my opinion. It's very repetitive. For example, Lucado makes a point and then uses countless examples to drive home the point. I keep reading...he keeps making the same point...and I begin to wonder when he's going to decide to move on.

If you're looking for your "calling", it would still be a good read...IF, you can put up with all of the repetitiveness.

I bought this book for a Bible study class at church. If you like Rick Warren's "Purpose-Driven Life," this would be a great follow-up book because it further talks about you living your life for God, and tries to help you find your niche. Plus Max has a very laid-back style that makes it fun reading. Enjoy!

As always, Max has great examples and word pictures! But, the added bonus to this book is the workbook portion in the back, that really allows you to look at your life indepth and pick apart those special times where you felt "God's Pleasure." The book allowed me to focus on those areas and narrow down what I really feel my "sweet spot" is. I would recommend this book to anyone trying to figure out what God would have them do with the rest of their life.

If you enjoy Max Lucado books like I do, than this one won't dissapoint! It is an inspiring read that makes you want to go out and do something important with your life. A great read as always.

Max Lucado has written an awesome book for anyone searching for the meaning in their lives, and especially those who would like to find their "sweet spot" as the author calls it. This is looking at your own particular strengths and loves to discern where you might find the most fulfillment, joy and success,,, in your career, a ministry, etc. I've bought many copies of this book for friends and people I'm counseling, and have plans to teach small group studies with it.

Max Lucado is an amazing Christian author - this is his best! Enlightening, encouraging and uplifting! If you wonder why you were put on this Earth -- read this book! He can say in a few words what others say in a paragraph. His work is not just for Christians, but can help anyone who is struggling in daily life. Thank you, Max, you've done it again!

First, I have to say I am a fan of Max Lucado, and this book definetely did not let me down! It is an easy read, in the Max Lucado style, filled with stories and humor. The most important part of the book is taking a look at and discerning what your passion is in life. It was eye-opening to me, and I have recommended it to many, many others. A definite "Don't miss it" book!!!

I haven't finished the book yet but i've enjoyed it so far. its very insightful and has much advice on how to live for Christ. Thank you again!

This is a book that will have you smiling and reach the heart of you. It will stop you in your tracks realizing that it is time to grab hold of your life and count all that you do as purposeful. First it gets you to know that you should be searching for what God's plan for just you is and then it meticulously helps you narrow down your search to a very personalized experience. It is a must read because how important is it that we don't let another day go by without having examined what it is we are meant to be doing instead of just getting caught up in the grind of every day only to find that our one existence on earth has dwindled away without really living it and fulfilling God's reason for our existence. I bought 2 of these (I myself already had one) for my 2 teen-aged daughters for their Easter basket. One is in college and one will be next year. It is an excellent way to drown out the noise of the world and focus on who it is God has created us to be supplying us with all the attributes that is necessary for a successful execution of His plan. A MUST READ!!! and a MUST APPLY! Time to have a quality existence with every moment counting for something.

I bought it because a friend recommended it...it's a great book! Max talks about living in your "sweet spot". He tells you how to discover God's plan for your life and how it feels once you are there. It's an amazing book...I'd recommend it to anyone who is not completely happy with their life.

Max Lucado is an easy read, simply profound with the profound simply put. He is a great storyteller, weaving many practical examples into an encouraging flow. He is always positive and has a gift for encouraging others. He illustrates spiritual truths well and helps the reader envision such realities.

This book, while not his best, is still very good and in the same vein as so many of his others. It is reminiscent of his Traveling Light, but also nods towards Warren's Purpose Driven SHAPE survey, Schuller's positive thinking, and Maxwell's 'playing to your strengths' philosophy. He writes much like Mark Buchanan and John Eldgredge.

In Lucado's theology, we already have all that we need within us. This potential is not to be anticipated additionally but has only gone unrecognized. Destiny is simply unrealized genetics in need of divine revelation by their Creator. Purpose and meaning already lie within.

In Lucado's worldview, desire confirms destiny, even if those desires can be misguided or untrustworthy. As a result, here we have another of his psychological how-to manuals.

He aptly emphasizes common sense but elevates it to the place of discernment, though the two are technically separate concepts even when they do partner together. In Lucado's theology, Spiritual Gifts are inherent talents and not later supernatural endowments. Talents are transformed into Spiritual Gifts at conversion (p.70).

He often encourages risk-taking without the anticipation of potentially negative consequences. This small detail sometimes makes his writings too idealistic.

According to Lucado, we can be more discerning when we simply reflect on previous situations. Guidance comes from the past.

The ending manual provides practical help for the new Christian but would not be all that insightful for the educated leader. It would be quite helpful for the lay church-person but mature leaders should already have gone through similar resources previously.

I love to read this authors work and this book was at a great price. I love shopping without have to leave the house. Excellent product and quick shipping.

Book did not come with paper cover over hard cover. Otherwise everything else with this buyer was good.

Great price compared to other online book stores. I was expecting to give to someone as a gift since I have a copy myself and I know it is a good book.
The book arrived on time but it was not in perfect condition as the corners were dented. Book jacket is in okay condition. I was disappointed to give to someone as a gift because it doesn't look as good. I believe it is a new book and never been read as seller stated. But mailing it by regular padded envelope may not protect the book and keep it in as "new" condition. That's why I only give 3 out of 5.
