The Crow by Original Soundtrack (CD, Mar-1994, Atlantic USA)

I loved the movie and was both so taken and intrigued by the music featured in the Film that I dashed out to get the soundtrack and years later it remains one of my favorite CDs filled with obscure songs that work so well and sound great!
Primarily a rock CD with a gothic, industrial edge, The Crow features 14 soundtracks from a random and eclectic selection of artists! Beginning with Burn by the Cure....I was amazed and enlivened by this song in the movie, and it was by far my motivating factor in purchasing this CD. Having not been impressed by the Cure in recent years....for me this was their WOW song, which worked perfectly with the context of the film, and gave me renewed interest in their work!
Stone Temple Pilots deliver an almost blues inspired track with Big Empty, whereas Nine Inch Nails stick to their trademark industrial sound, which is always fresh and hard hitting with Dead Souls, Rage Against the Machine plays with sounds on their track Darkness, parts of which depart slightly from their traditional angst.
Rollins Band deliver a hard hitting, powerful track with Ghost Rider - probably one of my favorite Rollins tracks, and Helmet deliver their typical style with an almost tuneless track to powerful music that is an effective combination!!
I was not familiar with the band For love Not Lisa, but certainly appreciated Slip Side Melting; and loved the change of direction on the compilation brought about by Jesus and Mary Chain - Snakerider. The CD certainly builds up, with tracks getting progressively heavier and more industrial, then slowing down with Medicine and finally Jane Sidberry's haunting "Can't rain all the time" which correlates to a line used in the movie and ends the Cd with a gentle, soft melody which speaks to viewers of this film!
If you like industrial and new wave metal and are a fan of The Crow, this is a top choice and one of my personal favorite soundtracks of all time!
