Crossing Delancey (VHS)

Izzy, played by Amy Irving is living the single life of a New Yorker. She's independent and happy. Her "Bubbie" (grandmother in Hebrew) thinks that she doesn't know what happiness really is. So she goes back to the old Jewish tradition of matchmaking. She hires a woman to find Izzy a husband.

Izzy who works in a bookstore, meets authors, has discussions on literature and sleeps with men she finds attractive won't hear of meeting "her match" who turns out to be the Pickle Man. He maintains his father's store where pickles are sold from a barrel. He keeps many of the Jewish traditons and has contact with the elderly Jewish population. The thing is that he enjoys it!

Not only is this a showdown between generations it is a learning experience for all of us on the true meaning of love. This was my "chose 'em or lose 'em movie". Before I was married, if I was dating someone seriously this was one of their tests. If they could sit through this movie and get it, they were on the right road to my heart. I can happily say that my husband not only sat through it, he held me while I cried and understood it's deep meanings.

Love isn't only about marriage but it's about family. Family should always stick together and not forget about their past and traditions. Watch this video to learn, cry and laugh too.
