Cross of Iron
Sam Peckinpah may have gone overboard with the blood but not by much. Life in the field, let alone combat, is dirty and dangerous. The actors did a great job of depicting combat veterans that try to make the best of their day to day lives. The will to survive is strong when the unit is overrun and forced to retreat, they rely on training, experience, and just plain meanness to stay alive and continue to fight the enemy. If someone, someday could include the smells of combat into a movie, no one would go to war. The comradeship is what makes it all bearable and these soldiers(actors) did well in showing that. This is why I like the movie so much. No matter what country, or army, the soldiers become family. It's a shame men such as these have to kill each other.
