Cromwell Dixon Remembered 100 years later

I have been interested in Cromwell Dixon ever since I heard that he was so young and yet became the 1st to cross the Contential Divide with an airplane. Another thing that interested me about this is that he crashed and was killed right here in Spokane, Washington where I live.
An interesting photo that was made during the time of the crash shows an old wooden bridge across the railroad where Cromwell crashed. On the 97th anniversary of his crash, I was at that the crash location at the same time of day and took pictures of the same area. That old wooden bridge is still there. Just a few years ago, the City condemmed it but it is a good land mark to mark the sight of the crash.
The Spokane Fair Ground where Cromwell was to take off and land looks very similar today as it did in 1911. The Fair Grounds were moved to a different location but the property was turned into a Horse Race Track. That has now been abanded and the property is vacant. I took pictures of the area as well.
In October of 2008 I drove to the spot that Cromwell Dixon flew over the Continental Divide. I got some good pictures there. I drove on to Helena, Montana to the airport where Cromwell had taken off from. Of course a lot has changed in Helena, but it was refreshing to see the other areas vertually untouched since Cromwell was there.
I found the book about Cromwell's life to be most interesting and would highly recomend it.
If I could figure out a way to fund it, I would like to build a memorial to Cromwell on the crash site. If you are interested in helping our Museum do that, please contact us.
