If you've come across copies of this book for sale online, you're no doubt wondering why this ordinary-looking crochet book is priced so high. Is it worth those outrageous prices?

That depends what you're looking for. If you're looking for a pattern book with specific instructions for how to make projects such as doilies or bedspreads, this is not a book that will interest you. If you want the latest, trendiest book out there you will probably be disappointed in the book; although it is extremely well-done, it's still a craft book from the 1980's.

Having said that, my opinion is that this book is absolutely the most inspiring crochet book ever. It is a fabulous introduction to the world of freeform, patternless crochet. The concepts introduced in this book are freeing in a way that could entirely change the way you look at crochet. The book will definitely increase your awareness of crochet's possibilities as an art form; you can achieve so much beyond just granny squares, doilies and afghans.

I think this book will really only appeal to people who are interested in designing their own projects. If you aren't interested in designing your own crocheted items then your money would be better spent on traditional pattern books. But, if you consider yourself to be a fiber artist or fashion designer, I think this book is well worth owning.

And if you find a good-condition copy priced at less than $50, consider it a total bargain! The book is highly collectible and there is quite a demand for it.
