Publisher's Note
"Crips" is the story of the largest street gang in Los Angeles, & indeed, the United States, that has procreated itself beyond anyone's prediction. This is the story of a young man, Jimmie Black, who is living in Watts, California at the time of the searing Watts Rebellion of 1965 & who is consequently a member of the original Crip gang in Los Angeles, the 107 Hoover Crip Gang, which was born & ruled in the spirit of Bunche Carter & The L.A. Black Panther Party as personified by Raymond (aka Ray Ray, Fass Black, et al) Johnson. Jimmie considers himself having outgrown Crippin' after the birth of his son, Jimmie Jr., but Crippin' keeps growing, too, until it enlists his son & devastates his family in its cruel social tradition that continues to fester & grow like an epidemic of kid cancer in L.A., & now, Fresno, Portland, San Diego, Tulsa, Kansas City, Seattle, etc. Adapted into the feature film "South Central" by Oliver Stone & Warner Bros.
