Issued in 2001, this 23-track collection surveys the House of Love's early years, presenting many of the British college-rock act's finest songs. Fronted by singer/guitarist Guy Chadwick, the band inhabited the same refined, literate pop landscape as the Smiths, though unlike that lauded ensemble, it received little attention in the United States. Highlights of the compilation include the jangly "Christine," the dreamy "Love in a Car," and the urgent "Destroy the Heart," tunes that reveal that group's charming and engaging songcraft. Although CREATION YEARS doesn't include the House of Love's most popular latter-day material, it serves as an excellent introduction to the sorely underrated ensemble.
