Creating Web Sites Bible Serves Purpose Well... Mostly

This book is a primer on all things related to web page design. It is well suited for what I believe is the intended audience: those who would like to start building websites, but who don't know for sure where to start. As a text of this nature must, it focuses primarily on HTML, but it also gives the reader a fair start in the disciplines of Cascading Style Sheets and JavaScript. The book also covers some basics relating to e-commerce and the general goings on of the internet.
If you're looking for a reference text on HTML, or any other web-programming language, I suggest you look elsewhere. The information covered in this book will probably be too cursory to satisfy, and the layout is not particularly well suited for reference purposes. There is an attempt to provide reference sections in the appendices, but these are only minimally useful. Rather, this book comes into it's own when read front to back by one with little experience in web programming.
I was a bit disappointed with the last few chapters of the book, particularly the one on blogging. It appeared that either the authors, the editors or both were fatigued by this point in the rather sizeable text, and chose not to give the latter sections the same attention as they gave the earlier portions. There were actually large chunks of text that appeared to be duplicated in multiple chapters. Additionally, some of the instructions regarding setting up accounts on eBay and other internet sites were a bit belabored.
The book is a good fit for those just starting down the path of building their own websites. I just hope the 3rd edition will be edited more carefully.
