Creating Fashion Dolls by Sabrina Guidice (2003, Paperback)

This book Creating Fashion Dolls is full of wonderful techniques and instructions on repainting dolls. Not only that, it tells what materials to use, colors to use, how to remove original face paint, how to repaint realistic features, realistic eyelashes, nails and even cheek blush. It also tells how to shade, and how to sculpt different features on a doll like the chin, nose and tips on how to do this, and what material to use for this, and also has pictures and details on barbies made into movie stars. This book is full of so many great ideas, techniques, and step by step instuctions, and pictures, that you will be amazed as my wife was when looking at this book. If you want a book on repainting dolls, this is a wonderful book. I have to say that my wife is very happy that she had me buy this for her, and that she was just in awe while lookig at and reading it. The author should get a lot of credit for all the work she has done putting this book together. There is not one thing that my wife disliked about the book at all.

For someone who already knows a bit about repainting, this book won't help much. If you are truly a beginner and don't know what to use to remove old face paint or what paints and brushes etc. to use, this would be OK. I found it very basic and was hoping for something much more in depth for someone who already knows the basics.

As a curiosity, I decided to try my hand at repainting doll faces even though I have no real artistic talent or training. This book offered multiple, very doable, processes and techniques to acheive new, custom and different looks and facial expressions for any doll. The author went into detail regarding facial structure, scale, hair, nails, and the painting of a realistic eye, having several chapters devoted to these items. In addition, information and instruction on material selection, mixing colors, removal/sealing of paints and enhancements/physical changes with sculpting paste is also included. All in all, an excellent first book with many tips and tricks for the seasoned repainter.

I have started reading this book as soon as I recieved it. I find the information to be of use as a beginning doll painter. Author uses a sense of humor to cut through the mundane details, and offers advice based on her and others experience. She has given clear reasons and explanations of the information she is suppling.
I guess I'll find out how well I can follow instructionswhen I get started.
