The Queen is Definately Back !
Review created: 10/02/09

It is Donna Summer and you only expect the best and as usuall , she delivers.
All new material and like the title "crayons" each song is like a different color you choose in a box of crayons . She cover so many genres of music in this cd , I was very pleased .
I wish the radio stations would take the time to place cuts from this cd instesd of the pop tart wannabes that are played -repeatedly . Yes, Donna is a bit older, but sounds amazing and her music and lyric need to be heard.
I have been a fan since the first time i saw her on the Dick Clark show in 1975 and still a big fan.
Donna, thank you for all the good music and good times.

Adrian in tampa,fl.

  The Queen is back!

And actually one of the tracks on the album where she makes fun of herself and celebrity. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it and once hearing it on the "big stereo" I am convinced it's a hit! Her voice is better than ever, the songs are good with something for everyone yet doesn't make me go for the "next" button. It's a five-star album, buy it now!

Donna still has that great strong voice of hers and still able to provide good dance beats. I'm glad that she came out with another cd. I have three favorites here and all three have that DANCE beat that get's you going.

What a shock to hear some really upbeat tunes from the Queen of Disco some 20 years later. The tracks have a very good tempo that makes this a great addition to your workout selections or just for good old dancing fun. Good for Donna Summer to hook up with some younger producers and put a fresh spin on her solid voice. Is this a "must have" for you? Probably not but it is worth the money if you are looking for some music that is enjoyable and will make folks at a party try to guess who this artist is.

  Fantastic Music, Average Lyrics
Review created: 01/21/09

Amazing album musically. Donna could have played it safe, but ventures into very exciting territory, very "now" without becoming too dated or trendy. Lyrics are a little generic at times and could have used a little more polishing, but the very catchy, exciting beats make up for that. There's only one or two songs I would have left off the album. All in all, VERY good. I should have bought it the moment it was released.

  Queen of variety

D.Summer shows a vocal style range that doesn't leave me bored after hearing the CD a few times. "Sand on my feet" ballad sounds like one of the current "divas". Her carribean accent on "Crayons" is authentic not a put-down. An enjoyable revival of the queen's talent.

The Queen is BACK ! --- But is this a COMEBACK ?
Review created: 07/05/08(updated 07/05/08)

Donna Summer has always felt conflicted about her being typecast (as a talented vocalist of mere "dance music"), about her fame, and about some of her fans. After a seventeen year hiatus, Donna heralds her royal return! In a noble effort to recapture some of her past glory, Dance-Floor Donna sings (with obvious references to her earlier Disco Diva days): "So many years ago on the radio, she crept into ya soul and loved to love ya all...The Queen is Back!" Well, partly. ***** One gets the strong impression that DS has resented her being pigeonholed by fans and the music industry with the "Queen of Disco" moniker, and has persistently tried to peck out of this disco/dance cage with forays into other, more "respectable" musical categories. Yet, despite her tenacity, she has never really attained the popular and financial heights she once knew whenever straying too far from these familiar genres. She crows, "Fame made a fool out of everyone...It's all about who they think you are," and "Let me introduce myself. I'm a woman that you've never seen. You might know me from somewhere else as someone that I've never been." ***** Her Majesty seemingly wants to reclaim her crown while at the same time implying she'd like to abdicate her throne! Our Queen, perhaps, but a reluctant, conflicted Queen. ***** Despite repeated efforts to expand her musical repertoire in the past, these have mostly been fair to failing commercial diversions. (Donnapologists may disagree.) While promising "the Queen is Back!" on *Crayons*, she nevertheless tries the everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach again---with mixed results. The album starts off with great fanfare, full of the energy, freshness and passion we have missed, as she tries on varied contemporary dance music styles. However, more than halfway into the album, the excitement peters out, plummeting into generic, lackluster, indistinguishable filler of dance numbers, pop tunes and ballads, unworthy of our Grande Dame. While listening to her convincing impersonation of Tina Turner in Track 9 may be a hoot, her "stretch marks" throughout the CD are most embarrassingly revealed here. ***** So, does she feel unfairly bound to restrict her God-given talent mainly to fan-friendly dance fluff? Rumors also persist about her love/hate/love relationship with a sizable portion of her fan base after finding religion: gay men. The story goes she loves the sinners, hates the sin, loves the sinners' money. After 17 years of mounting bills, is this CD just Donna's most recent attempt of holding her nose while going in for another financial dip at the same well? Heaven Knows. ***** (The Royal) "We" are glad the Queen is back. Unfortunately, her tiara has lost much of its former regal glitter.

  Definitely The Queen is back!!!

Donna's first CD of all-new material in 17-years - does not disappoint. Gone forever are the Disco Days of "Hot Stuff" and "Heaven Knows". Donna Summer is a well-respected, 5-time Grammy Award winning songwriter and artiste' - not just a singer who can hold a note for 15 bars.

No stranger to challenging herself and going for the unexpected, she crosses over many music genres on this CD - as she has in all of her her post-SHE WORKS HARD FOR THE MONEY work - and has produced a very nice album that is very pleasant and easy to listen to. While I must admit that I actually prefer when Donna sings in full voice and shows you her God-given talent as a vocalist, the studio effects placed on her voice do grow on you after a few listens.

Some similar sound, with new upbeat music, as only Donna can do. So glad to have this Diva back. Saw her in concert in Fla. wish she'd come back to my area to promote this new CD. Would love the opportunity to hear it live. Ruth Eckerd Hall misses Donna. Love the CD.

This is a mix bag. Stamp Your Feet to me is the best this cd has to offer. But the first single I'm a Fire did but her in the history books for only artist to have a #1 dance single in each of the past 4 decades. Be myself again is the first song heard by her new lable. Sand on my feet may place here on adult 40..but hardly a top ten single coming. I am happy tho just to her Donna again..and got concert tickets lol.......So in a nutshell BUY this one SUMMER IS COMING
