In The Country Bunny, a poor rural female brown bunny manages through grit and adherence to high values to become one of the Five Easter Bunnies who bring eggs to children around the world. By the (white) author of Porgy, which later became basis for the musical Porgy and Bess.

I remember this book when I was a child. I noticed on ebay on day I was looking for something else. As soon as I saw the cover it all came back to me and I just had to get one and share it with my 3 year old who loves books. She loved the book also, so every year for Easter I am going to make it a tradition to read it to her and her younger brother.

  Bookshelf treasure
Review created: 04/08/07(updated 08/17/09)

What a neat book. I have read this and reread (and re-read....)this with my soon to be 4 year old daughter. She loves it and so do I. It isn't the shortest childrens book out there, but the pictures should hold their interest. Wonderful illustrations. The story is really endearing and gives hope to those that do their absolute best. I am going to put it in our keepsake box and hopefully she'll read it her her daughter. A bookshelf treasure indeed!
