Cost of Discipleship
Review created: 11/06/08(updated 11/06/08)
I enjoyed this book. It was very inspirational.
This book challenges the individual Christian to think just what being a follower of Jesus Christ involves and how this should influence our perspective of life. “Only he who believes is obedient and only he who is obedient believes,” Bonhoeffer once said.
The ” memoir” at the beginning of the book provides a brief sketch of Bonhoeffer’s life. A prominent and accomplished Christian leader in Germany prior to Hitler’s rise to power, he quickly became heavily involved in the resistance to Nazi efforts, particularly through the Confessing Church, a declaration and organized movement in what was essentially a Nazi regime takeover of the German evangelical church. This resistance eventually cost Bonhoeffer his life.
