This is the game that put Working Designs on the map. EGM's RPG of the year for when it came out, it was a great game. The graphics were typical 16 bit but the cut scenes were phenomenal. I have played through this game a couple of times and every time, I find something new. If you have a Turbo Grafx CD or a Duo, I would recommend this highly. Unfortunately the sequels were only released in Japan but this was the start of Working Designs great RPG legacy.

Cosmic Fantasy 2 is a quality RPG released for the TurboGrafx CD and Turbo Duo by Working Designs. While Ys and Neutopia are more action-oriented, Cosmic Fantasy 2 is a true RPG. That means towns, dungeons, an overworld map, and turn-based battles. The story is good, but pretty standard for an RPG. Thanks to the power of the Turbo Grafx CD, there is excellent CD quality audio throughout the game and well drawn anime style cutscenes. The voice-over acting is a little corny, but not to the point of being annoying. The only real disappointing thing is that none of the other games in the series were ever released in the U.S. (not even the first Cosmic Fantasy). Now that Working Designs is no more, this game will probably never be released again in America. Cosmic Fantasy 2 is a great game that should be in every Turbo fan's collection.

The Turbografx console was widely overlooked, but there are two perfectly understandable reasons as to why. Nintendo and Sega. The Sega Genesis was enough to crush NEC's efforts in Europe and the US, and the Super Nintendo helped hammer in the final nail of the coffin for the poor console manufacturer. As with other failed consoles (and add-ons) there are actually numerous fun games to be found, and one of these such titles is a little RPG known as Cosmic Fantasy 2. Never heard of it?
