The Corner

I would recommend reading the book by David Simon and Edward Burns first, "The Corner: A Year in the Life of an Inner-City Neighborhood". However, "The Corner" miniseries is a very well done, and unique blend of journalism and drama. It is produced by David Simon, the same producer of "The Wire" and "Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets". This is not for the squeemish, or anybody who wants to just see action. It is an attempt to humanize two largely marginalized groups (drug addicts and young drug dealers) in its following of a family deeply entrenched in the West Baltimore drug culture. It does not romanticize the gangster lifestyle, nor does it make excuses for drug addicts. Simon demonstrates the sadness of this lifestyle, in an attempt to raise consciousness by transforming these lives into art. This is a very compelling miniseries.
