great contra game my favorite so far, tons of action great fun playing, hard but beatable, good graphics fast movement. lots of things to unlock.

This is an awesome game, possibly the best DS game I've played yet. It has the look and feel of the original Nintendo version but I'm confident that someone who had never played that version would still enjoy this one. The graphics are cool, the game play is great, and it's a blast to play. If you own a DS you should definitely own this game!

Contra 4 is a great new addition to the series. I have played alot of Contras in the past and they all have been great and this one keeps the series alive I think. The gameplay stays true with the 2D side scrolling that old school player still love like I do. The creators keep true with the stage look and difficulty and the awesome weapons. I highly recommend this game for purchase for anyone who enjoys Contra. I give this game a rating of 4.8 out of 5. To bad it wasn't released on the Wii.

Contra as from the old days. Nothing has changed, same side-scrolling, difficult, action packed game. Just like Alien Wars, you can hold to weapons and walk right. It's wonderful.

A great hand held title. One of the best title on the DS ever made. Has great replay value and is worth ever dime.

I bouht the game a few weeks back and I was impressed to see that the game was in great condition :) This game brings back great memories!!!

I bought this hoping it would be like the original Contra for Nintendo. This is way harder, and is not even half as fun as the original.

If you've played the older Contra games, you already know that the game's level of difficulty will be high. I would expect nothing less. I personally loved this one because, it incorporates a lot of the elements from the original NES Contra into this one. A lot of the levels are very similar and have a familiar feel to them. As does some of the bosses. Add in the unlockable versions of the NES Contra and Super C, and it makes this one well worth the money. 2 Thumbs UP!

I played Contra on my old Sega came and it was great then...better actually, but to have mini version of the samr guyd and their gun selection is way cool, you will not beat this game period, it will br your favorite right away...

If you like Contra on NES... Then you will love this game. It is a great game with a few new things added into the game play.

Game is excellent, very similiar to original contra for nintento but with better graphix, came is extremely difficult and can be frustrating at times. You can unlock contra for nintendo and other contra's for other systems, definitely a game I'll be keeping.

it's an excellent game, i love it because it reminds me of the old contras. nice action escenes and the weapon, and don't forget about the different worlds.

If you remember the first Contra games from the 80's and early 90's no warning is necessary for those who don't be warned this game is highly addictive and will leave you with a lot less hair than when you started. Like its predecessors Contra 4 provides you with a real sense of accomplishment when you finish a level or complete a challenge and even though you'll curse the game more often than not you just can't put it down. I often found myself getting so frustrated I just shut the DS off only to be back 10 minutes later trying that same challenge.

The story mode itself isn't very long and when you get skilled enough you could probably play through the game in under an hour. Some of the end of level bosses, Jungle and Factory spring to mind, are also a reimagining of some of the classics rather than completely new ones which isn't altogether bad as they'll still creep you out when you see them and bring back lots of memories. Some of the levels can be pretty short especially the indoor ones and it would have been nice if the developers had taken some time to lengthen them and design a mini boss for those stages as well. Another down side is that you always have to start from the beginning like the previous games so you can't pick a favourite level and just play through it or take on a specific boss although 5 of the bosses are available as Rematch challenges. I often get the urge to replay a level like the Harvest Yard or the Harbor but to have to play through all the others first puts me off. Also once you die its very difficult to continue through the game successfully so being able to react to a situation where you're going to die by switching weapons or double tapping A to drop the upgraded weapon becomes as much a skill as dodging bullets, avoiding the enemy and blowing the hell out of everything on the screen.

The unlockable content is a bit of a let down although you can unlock the original Contra and Super Contra by completing some of the challenges so you basically get an extra 2 games included which is great for Contra fans like myself because honestly who still has a working NES or SNES after all this time, but other than that it just amounts to a few extra characters from the previous games. The included comics are nice and seeing some of the promo posters for the previous games is great but more info on the design of the games would have gone down well and some concept sketches for Contra 4 would have been awesome. My other gripe is the cinematics, in this day and age not to have a fully rendered opening scene or ending especially for those who manage to finish the game on hard is a bit of a let down although the developer's style holds true to the feel of the previous games in that regard. Personally I would have loved to see Black Viper getting his just desserts from different angles across both DS screens.

The co-op play is classic Contra being able to team up with a "buddy" and take on the aliens reminds me so much of the days growing up playing Contra on the NES with friends racing to the edge of the screen to try force each other off, trying to beat each other to the power ups and ending up being bigger rivals with your team mate than the aliens.

All in all this is a very fitting tribute to the legend of Contra and perfect to represent the 20th anniversary of the series, all my gripes and moans aside. If you give this game half a chance it will suck you in and never let you go.

what is ther to say it;s the boom it's all action i give it a 10.this game is like the ones i used to pay wene i was younger it bring back memorys.just play it and u'll know what i mean if ur old school.

In other just an awesome game of the year

This game is some serious classic Contra action. The style is simular to that used in Contra 3 on the SNES and the game is hard as nails. Level design is familiar and bosses are huge and way over the top. Great game for those who miss the good old days of games being impossible to beat without hours of time dedicated to learning them inside and out. I loved Contra, Super Contra, Contra 3, and Shattered Soldier... and Contra 4 does not disappoint.

Worth the money if you love playing the DS and want a game that will kick your butt.

Warning: this is a highly addictive game. Right off the bat, I was pleased as this isn't one of those cheesy Contra games in which you can choose to be robot and werewolf characters. You can either be the original 2 soldiers or 2 newer ones. The graphics are probably more comparable to "Alien Wars" on Super Nintendo, but that's okay, I personally prefer those graphics to the "realistic" graphics of most of today's games. You get all the classic weapons featured in the original NES version, and even the first level is reminiscent of the first level in the original. The gameplay is very fast-paced in the sense that you have to play each level several times and remember what to do at certain points because you have to react very quickly. Then there are the rewards! You can unlock classic Contra games by beating the "arcade mode", or beating a certain amount of the games in "challenge mode".

I decided to buy it because I like the original Contra and this one is very similar with better graphics and options (of course). It has great action and effects. Recommend for anyone who likes action games.
