This film is a low-key British comedy that is oft times tongue-in-cheek, cheeky. It starts with am over-eager young upstart, Ian Littleton (Tyler Butterworth), who's been hired as junior executive at "Chumley's Chocolate Factory." It's a very old-timey family business since Graham Chumley (Freddie Jones) plans to stick with old family traditions.
But, the influential, greedy, Mr.Farris (Jonathan Pryce), has made the company into a calloused corporation that's falling apart. That is, until Littleton shows up for his first day at work, bumbling around as he tries to find his way through the factory. Inadvertently, Littleton hits a switch that dumps three factory workers into a vat of hot churning chocolate. They disappear into the mix & are presumed to be dead; then, part of the candy mixture.
With new ratings just arriving from the public tasters, it appears that the company is doomed; until the new batch, presumably with the dead workers mixed in, becomes a tasty sensation. When candy sales sky rocket, Littleton is promoted, but not for his bumbling error. Mr. Farris connives to keep him quite about he accident by promoting & keeping him quite busy doing the company's business.
His chief assignment is to satisfy the three widows of the workers who are presumed dead & being eaten by candy consumers. Among them is Mrs. Garza (Vanessa Redgrave), the nyphomaniac who immediately jumps Littleton's bones & takes an extremely lusty liking to him. Their interactions are the most hilarious. But Littleton's assignments do not end with 'satisfying' Mrs. Garza (who wears him out!). He's now assigned to procure the 'secret ingredients' for Chumley's sell out recipe~
