Average at best. I was hoping to actually learn something about the Gullah culture, but this was just about Jon V. dancing and prancing across the screen. Could have been a typical Robin Williams flick, the misunderstood rebel-clown with a heart of solid gold. Character development was extremely thin to absent. Do yourself a favor. Buy "The Water is Wide"- same story, different treatment.
