Being brand new to geocaching, this book was perfect for me and no, I didn't really feel like a complete idiot! I was also a newbie to using a GPS unit when I bought the book and it saved me. I stumbled onto geocaching through an unrelated newsletter. It sounded like something my husband and I might enjoy doing together. Though both of us have outdoors experience, neither of us knew anything about GPS units or geocaching. Very, very simply, geocaching is sort of like treasure hunting using modern technology. It has different levels of difficulty, so it can include young and old alike.

I started at the library and bookstores browsing through different books available. This book jumped out immediately as being the best. It uses plain language, explains technical language and geocaching lingo, too. It is set-up in a step-by-step manor that leads you through like any good set of directions to a board game, even though this isn't a board game, and includes a glossary. If you know nothing about using maps, GPS units, etc., but would like to get started, geocaching and this book are for you. If you have some background, but have never taken the time to learn the ins and outs of the geocaching community or need a refresher course on finding your way with a GPS unit, this book is also for you.

One thing that really impressed me was the care taken in each step of the book to be sure that newcomers to geocaching would be comfortable and safe. All through the book are tips and suggestions about the right type of clothing for the area of the country, reminders to carry extra batteries, researching before going, carrying a first aid kit, and other important information for anyone new to geocaching or new to the outdoors.

I found this book a very well written how-to guide. It has a fun title that should lead people to great fun!

Comprehensive overview and introduction to a sport I enjoy a lot. This book would be a great way for a newbie to find out about geocaching and for an experienced cacher to learn the history of a techno-hobby so many people are enjoying. Read this book to find out how.

  Geocaching made easy!

This book was published in 2004 (2003 info) so as far as equipment/software/stats are concerned it's a little outdated. That being said, it is FULL of excellent explanations of how Geocaching works, how to use your GPS, how to use a compass, etc. Rather than using it as a reference I opted to read the whole book, and it has really helped me understand the history of the sport, and the different aspects of geocaching work (ie. Travel Bugs, GeoCoins, hiding/retrieving caches, the different types of GPSs, etc.) I would highly recommend this book. Happy Caching!

This book will be an asset for some time. Thus far, it was helpful to get me interested in the hobby. Then, it proved helpful to determine what type of equipment to get and what to avoid. Once I get my equipment, then it will continue to be helpful in have a great time, with the family, as I use the GPS to find treasure. I'm thankful this book was written and thankful it was on ebay.

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Geocaching

I love the Complete Idiot Guide Books. I have a couple of them on different subjects. And, this one was just as helpful as the others! They are so simple to understand.
The Complete Idiot Guide to Geocaching was easier to understand than my owner's manuel for the GPS.
Plus, it helped explain the etiquette of Geocaching.

A friend had a copy of this book and we liked it. Seen it on ebay one day and bid on it and won. Price was less than in the store so we got a pretty good deal on it. I came in a reasonable amount of time and in excellent condition.
Thanks for the book. Loren Williams - will4088
