The Comebacks (DVD, 2008, Unrated)

Coach Fields (David Koechner) tries to lead a losing football team to victory while one of the players (Matthew Lawrence) romances the coach's daughter (Brooke Nevin), in this sports movie send-up.

Is this any better than the recent string of laugh-free parodies (think: "Epic Movie," "Date Movie" and any number of "Scary Movies")?

Like most "parodies" this movie simply reenacts or references bits from other films—including "Blue Crush," "Field of Dreams," "Miracle," "Remember the Titans" and "Stick It"—without actually adding anything more to the "spoofs." Sports movies are full of clichés ripe for smart satire, but "The Comebacks" settles for generic homophobic and ethnic humor—there's a Latino player who shows what he thinks of the coach's "contract" by turning it into a taco and eating it. Koechner has good comic timing but he's much better served by scene-stealing supporting roles in A-level projects ("Anchorman," "The Office") than a star turn in a Z-grade effort like this.

How did this movie make it to theaters.

The movie ends with the threat of a sequel, which is easily the funniest thing about it.

It is very funny and is worth the time and money!!
All the main characters are on point and made me laugh over and over

It was a funny movie, but not as funny as the previews showed it to be. Did not think the main character was too funny, but overall a good movie, and you get some laughs out of it.

I bought this movie because I thought it would be funny . It met all my expectations. it was very funny and really intertaining. it had funny parts throughout. if you havent seen this movie you really should. you wont be disapointed

Similar to Epic Movie or the Scary Movies series, but it's a parody of great sports films. It has some funny parts. More of a rental movie.

The movie was full of comedy. My favorite part of the movie is the ipod shuffle. I decided to buy it after watching a little of the movie on tv.

When i bid on this movie i thought that it would be just another stupid movie that spoofs other movies. I was wrong about the stupid part! It was incredibly funny. One of the top 5 funniest movies I have ever seen! It has many immature sexual jokes involving a nerdy player and coach Fields which is absoluteley hilarious! I RECCOMEND YOU BUY THIS MOVIE! IT IS AMAZING!

It's about time some did a spoof of sports movies and this one doesn't leave many stones unturned. David Koechner is excellent in the lead role and hopefully he's got many more to come!

I like this movie, and it's definitely funny, but it's one of those Scary Movie style comedies. You know, the random comedy genre.
