Skillet's newest release is one of their best yet (I am impartial to Collide, though). It starts out with an intense Rebirthing song, the song starts out sort of symphonic and never lets you down all throughout. Every song makes you want to listen to it over and over again, but the first and last songs are the best. Looking for Angels is the last song and it ends the CD on an awesome not. The song is different then any other song on the CD and most anything Skillet has ever done. I was impressed!
Overall the mixing on the CD is great and the female back-up vocals are great, not to mention the lyrics are positive and exciting. It is hard to pull yourself away from this CD, so it is a definite buy!

  3 years later...

Skillet's Collide, released at the end of '03, did very well. It was Linkin Park with good musicians who aren't afraid to get their hands dirty. The only knock on it was a lack of polish. Well, 3 years later, Comatose takes everything Collide did right and did it better and took everything it didn't do so well and went ahead and did that well to.

The only downside to this record is that at times it seems more a collection of fantastic singles rather than an awesome album. This comes because of a couple songs like "Those Nights" where an observer would guess Jon Cooper has been listening to his share of FM Static and Relient K.

All things considered, worth the price of admission. In the wake of Sanctus Real's disappointing third set, Comatose salvages the year, music-wise. This is the best CD to come out this calender year. Period.

I have been listening to Christian music for over 20 years and have heard some bad and a lot of good music. This is one of the best cd's of 2006. Skillet has just continued to improve over the last 10 years and this one is their best. I routinely use music in my junior high Sunday School class and the response of the junior high boys, and there are some rough ones, was unanimously awesome. Definitely, definitely pick this one up!

Nothing Else Like It In Today's Music

If you like intricate melodies integrated with monster power chords, outstanding bass lines, intense percussion and introspective lyrics about the power and pain of love left wanting, waiting and remembering, this will be the best album you have bought in the last 20 years. From modern Linkin Park style slashing guitar to power balads reminisent of the early 1980's "hair bands", this album has it all in a style that is uniquely modern and uniquely Skillet. If you arleady know the band, it is by far their best effort to date, and Collide (2005) is one of my all time favorites. This is the only band playing today that leaves me wanting more. You will either love it or hate it, but play it loud and it will definately get your atention.

This CD is excellent. Skillet offers some depth and insight into God's healing of addiction and depression. The style is similar to their last CD (Collide) only with more string instrumentals.

  Comatose--Skillet (CD)

I bought this for my 12 year old son for Christmas. He loves Skillet's music and we could not find this in any stores where we live. I was excited to find it on Ebay and for a fair price. As a Christian mother, I look for clean lyrics and a positive message. What could be more uplifting than having your children listen to praise music to the Lord? Some of his friends may hear it and maybe they would make a decision to follow Jesus. My son likes this CD because it is more upbeat than traditional gospel hymns, but still carries the good news.

Skillet - Comatose (Deluxe Edition) [2007]
Review created: 02/04/08

To end 2007 on a grand note, Skillet re-releases their latest album COMATOSE, with a few acoustic do-overs and an extra DVD containing a few videos.
It seems Skillet always falls a few feet short from releasing an extraordinary hard rock album these days. COLLIDE was their best to date, with a harder edgier feel, with some screams to boot. Losing their faux-techno look and feel for an all around rockin' sound did them best.
Here on this album, COMATOSE doesn't know where to fit in. It is no where near the intensity of COLLIDE, and tries to rely back on some faux violin/orchestra sounds as extra song filler. The harder edge seems to have faded, as more mushy song filler pushes in through your speaker instead of some heavy laden guitars.
There are a few semi-hard rock songs here on COMATOSE...but not nearly enough to keep the listener entertained. Oh Skillet, where is thy hard rock sting? I guess a novel feature is their extra DVD with a few videos; but hey, who can't see 'em on YouTube these days? As for the extra acoustic renditions of a few songs... I skipped right through them. Honestly. If a song isn't good, then doing it acoustically won't make it sound better.

All in all, if you're a die hard Skillet fan, then pick it up. If you're a mediocre Skillet fan, then skip this one and buy their last album, COLLIDE.

  Exellent CD

This was my first taste of Skillet and all I have to say is Wow. The whole CD is great. All of the songs are well written and very well executed. Rebirthing is what got my attention in the first place. I was listening to a music channel on cable and heard this awesome sound being played. After weeks of hearing the track on its own I decided to buy the album on eBay and listen to the rest of the band's work. Boy was I glad I did. Nice. Now I need to get the first one, Collide, sine its only logical. For now I have been listening to the Comatose album non stop since July. I can't bring myself to eject the CD from my truck's cd player. At work I listen to the burned tracks while I sit at my desk. I am hooked on Skillet. I'll go to their concert because of this CD. Albums are made to promote live shows. This albums bought me. Now I have to see them live. Buy this.

They do their own thing, and they do it very well. The styles range from hard rock to rock/pop. The lyrics give the positive message we all need to hear. Turn up the volume in the car or wherever!

I really wasn't the biggest Skillet fan prior to this album, but the intensity of some of the songs is hard to not enjoy. The band also meshes their edge with melody and creates something that is unique and powerful. Worth every penny.

Skillet has shown their best now. The heavier sounds and the back up chick rocks! use of stings and a better mix down make this the best album yet.

Amazing CD with a new sound
Review created: 05/11/07

Skillet is great because they always put a new twist on rock. Comatose is amazing because they combine heavy rock with deep orquestrial music. I like to play this in my car when I drive friends around, and they were all very impressed. They asked me what cd I was playing, and went out and got it themselves. Trust me, this cd is amazing with a new type of sound.

It was exactly what I wanted. I had been hearing this song on the radio for a couple of weeks and had to have the cd. I got on ebay and BAM there it was. I looked for the better buy and then bid on it. It was in perfect condition and the shipping was fast. The whole entire process was simple and problem free. Thank you to ebay and the seller.

  Skillet Rocks with Comatose
Review created: 01/26/08(updated 01/26/08)
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I have loved Skillet for several years. Their music has always been rather edgy, even through their "industrial" phases. But with Comatose, Skillet has sparked a rockin' beacon call to saints and sinners for greater understanding of the needs in everyone's lives. And -if the listener thinks with the lyrics, they will be drawn to the mercy and grace found in the Lord.

This is an AWESOME CD! Just AWESOME! A lot better than your average heavy metal Christian rock. lol I also really like how the lyrics for each song are
included inside the CD. The cover art is a little unusual, but that's forgiveable. I highly recommend this item.

  Skillet Rocks!!!
Review created: 09/06/07
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

As a fan of Skillet, I bought the album hoping for some more rockin' songs. I was not disappointed. Skillet's Comatose is full of heavy rock songs but also contains a few throwback rock ballads in "Don't Say Goodbye" and "Yours to Hold." Among the headbanging songs, "Rebirthing", and the title track stand out as the best with Skillet's classic sound mixed with some string elements for a definitive sound. "The Last Night" also stands out with Korey Cooper's vocals adding a special something to the song. All in all, there may only be one or two songs on this album which I would not label as great. If you're even a casual fan of Skillet, you must get "Comatose."
