Cocaine Nights by J.G. Ballard (1998, Hardcover)

I just finished devouring the Tales of the Otori by Lian Hearn. In researching that author I read that Ballard was someone she mentioned as enjoying. Not this book in particular, but this is the one I bought. I found it not to my taste. It felt wooden, and lacked momentum and the characters felt dead. I almost never put a book down unread but picking this one up felt more and more like a chore so after about half, it got put in the pile of books that go out the door instead of onto the shelf for another look. I know that authors sometimes let lesser works get into print and have to hope that this is one of those.
