This driver is the cream of the crop for me, and I have tried PIng, Callaway, Taylor Made, Srixon, you name it. It is the most consistent driver I have ever used. Makes you feel very confident of hitting the fairway. The R7 might be longer when you hit it absolutely sweet, but how often do we do that. This driver is the most forgiving I have ever tried. My buddies hate my Cobra driver-that kind of says it all.

  Best Driver Ever - UPDATED

I was just fitted for the new Callaway FT-i and FT-5 drivers at Golf Galaxy. Before purchasing one of them I tried side by side with my Cobra F/Speed. Well, I ended up not purchasing the new driver and kept my Cobra!! No kidding!

I have tried just about every driver made over the past two years. I buy and sell clubs all the time, and usually try them first. I purchased the Cobra F Speed for someone else, but tried it first. Let me tell you this, my friends tell me if I get rid of this driver I am completely nuts! I've never hit a better driver. It sounds greats, I'm able to control the ball flight easier than with any other club. All I can say is that Cobra has a new customer! Needless to say, my friend never got the driver, I kept it!

I like others that have reviewed this club buy and sell clubs all the time. I havent written a review because its not my cup o tea but I have to write a review about this club. I've had Ping G2 and 5, Nike Ignite and Sasquatch and although they go a little farther this club has a wicked way of correcting my slight slice. Very very constistent on the fairways. I've gone from probably 6 or 7 fairways a round to 12 or 13, i mean this driver is no doubt the reason. I believe its 2 degress closed. The shaft NV-F, fantastic. You don't even know your swinging it and when you catch it sweet it sends a deep ping thats very distinctive. A very good club for the average Joe. I just went from the 10.5 to a 9 to try and get a few yards because although its straight, i'm not hitting it as far as i have, probably gone from a 280-290 to a 260-270. What do you want straight and 260 or 280 and out the rough? Great deals on Ebay as well.

Cobra F Speed Driver Golf Club w Aldila stiff graphite

Added 30-40 yards to my drive making 300+ drives not uncommon. The 9 degree loft kept my drives a bit lower helping the ball roll further down the fairway. And the built in closed face reduced my slicing a whole lot. It does better for those of us with a faster swing speed. I love this club!!

Not as good as Taylor Made R7

I bought this club after demoing it at a local golf course. One very strange thing I noticed at the driving range is that on some (small) percentage of shots it makes a noise that actually hurts my ears!! Very strange and it seems to only happen with range balls but hurts nonetheless. Bottom line is I played a round with a buddy of mine who had just purchase the Taylor Made R7 Quad - I hit several shots with it and the shots went further and the contact felt more solid. For me the R7 shots were in the 280/290 range and the F Speed was going around 260/270 so probably about 15 yards difference. A good driver but not as good as Taylor Made.

Awesome driver for the mid handicapper

Highly recommend this driver to anyone who is a mid to high handicapper. I'm a 16 with a 103 swing speed and this club is perfect. It's very forgiving, long and straight. I switched from a Ping ISI Tec I had for so long because of performance and my new Cobra blows it away. I'm much straighter off the tee and actually picked up about 10-15 yards. I'm hitting 8 iron or higher into the greens. The club does sound like an aluminum baseball bat off the tee. At first it's kind of funny, but you soon don't even realize it. This club is so much cheaper than the new drivers from other top companies and equal if not better in performance. Cobra got this one right on the money.

  Cobra F-Speed LD golf driver

This driver replaces my old Cobra 454 Comp driver. This club gives me an extra 20 yards (or more) on each drive and it tends to hit the ball straight. The large clubface helps get a more solid hit on the ball. Visually it sets up well and provides a loud pop when you hit the ball. Some might not like this sound, but I do. The club is good looking and has a nice balance to it.

I purchased a used Cobra 440 driver last winter - I am a winter visitor.
I just love the way it hit. My wife has tried it and she would like to have it.
I have looked at the new 460 drivers and felt that I should have a new one so I purchased one on e-bay. I have used it and I am very satisfied with the purchase.

Cobra F Speed 10.5 deg. Regular Shaft
Review created: 09/05/07
by:

I really like that Cobra has tuned the driver to fit weekend warriors like myself -- my swing speed falls in the "F" or middle series. The Aldila NV shaft is fantastic! I use Titleist Pro V1 or V1x, and the club controls spin which equates to more roll. The club will allow a modest amount of shot shaping, but most of the time I just want to put it in the fairway. The shaft releases just right (because of the tuning) and the ball goes straight with good roll. If I balloon a shot it is my fault. Be warned that other manufacturers use the more flexible tipped NVS -- I could not control my shots at all. The club gives excellent feedback and sounds like a gun going off when you hit it solid. This is perhaps the only thing I dislike about the club -- I'd rather have the thud of a Titleist or TaylorMade. I can only imagine how the new LD series has improved on this excellent club.

This club turned out to be everything I wanted. The light shaft and increased loft has greatly aided me in being more consistent with the driver. My distance off the tee has not increased markedly, but, I am straighter now than I was.

I feel that this club makes a big difference in the length of my drives. When I played in a scramble with a friend. his length of drive really surprised me, so decided I just had to try one. Yes I am very glad I did. I could and would recommend this driver to my friends and yours.

  THE LONG LOUD DRIVER
Review created: 06/05/07
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This is a very good driver. It does sound like an aluminum bat when you hit it, but the results are worth it. I have found other of the new bread of drivers sound as loud or even worse. One thing that I have had to do differently with this driver is not to let my right hand come over at contact, because is has a slightly closed face. I am a natural hooker, and it took me a little time and a lesson from the Pro to get into the groove. Now I hit it straight when I want to or I can hook or fade it also. I am 60 yrs old and have carried a handicap between 3 and 8 for the last 20 years. I have hit this club longer than any other I have played. That includes the Callaway X and the Cobra speed. I have extended the shaft to 46.5 mainly because it feels more confortable at that length. I don't know that it increases my disstance, but I do feel that I'm not swinging out of my shoes to get that distance. The Cobra is an excellent driver, the only reason for giving it a good rating is that I'm sure there will be another better, if I keep looking. Later Ray

had the cobra 350 & loved it.wanted more distance so I popped for the 460. the larger club head is harder to square at impact.I had to adjust my stance(ball more forward)and swing path(flatter).this is a great club, but no magic bullit. If you're a slicer with a fast swing and don't have time to beat balls reguarly, you may want to go with an off-set or smaller head.

  Long and Straight
Review created: 06/22/08(updated 06/22/08)

2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I hit about 8 different drivers while being measured by a ball launch monitor and the 2007 Cobra LD F Speed (10.5*, Reg) took the cake, even more so than the 2008 model. My club head speed is usually around 101-103, 3000-3200 rpms and 140-146 ball speed.

I've been using a Cleveland Launcher -- Comp (10.5*, Reg) for a few years and it's been a very trustworthy club. The Cobra has a slightly higher launch and slightly less spin than the Cleveland, so I'm seeing 5-8 add'l yds. The difference is even more pronounced on mishits since the Cobra has a much larger face & larger MOI (5000+).

Here are some of the other clubs I tried:

2007 Taylormade Burner -- didn't see any gain in distance vs. the Cleveland.
2007 Cleveland HiBore XL -- shorter than my Launcher.
2008 Callaway HyperX Tour -- went lower and to the right
2007 Callaway x460 (8.5*, stiff) -- almost bought this one. Had a custom shaft that really made a difference.
2008 Cobra LD F Speed (9.5*, Reg) -- slightly shorter and more fades. It had an even high launch than the 2007 model and a slightly stiffer, heavier shaft (so I wasn't able to get around it vs. the 2007 model). So folks with a faster swing and lower trajectory may be better suited with the 2008 model.

Bottom line: getting properly fitted and seeing the results on a ball launch monitor is one of the best ways to find the right driver for you.

p.s. I also have the 2007 LD Speed 3 wood and hit it a ton (and straight). The shaft really makes a difference -- probably why the 2007 driver makes sense for me too. My handicap index is 9.2 and I play a couple times a week.

My wife and kids bought me the 10.5* Stiff shaft F-Speed driver as a Christmas present last year, I can't tell you how great a gift this club has been. I had a Taylor Made driver prior to my Cobra, there's no comparison, Cobra beats out Taylor Made without question. My drives are 30-40 yards further down the fairway, besides being down the fairway not in the trees. I would recomend this club to anyone looking to improve their tee shots.

Cobra F Speed 8 degree Driver
Review created: 08/06/07

2 of 3 people found this review helpful.

This is the best Driver I have ever owned. I tend to slice my drives by leaving the club face open. The Cobra is slightly closed and my slice is now a power fade. The 8 degree face has added about 25 - 30 yards by allowing more roll. I replaced my Taylor Made R7 Quad and I am very satisfied.

I tried a friend's Cobra. I had a Callaway with a smaller head. I hit the Cobra so well, I looked for one. The club I found was identical to my friend's and better yet, was brand new. It is very forgiving[460cc], hits the ball high, looks great and has given me a new found confidence.

Bought a new Cobra F-Speed driver because I have always liked Cobra clubs. I'm very happy with the purchase. chose the F-Speed model to match my swing speed. My last driver was an early model mid-size titanium so the bigger head offers a little more room for error. Considering adding the F-Speed fairway woods to my set soon, just trying to make best sales pitch to the wife.

Everytime I saw someone hit a Cobra driver, whether they were a good or bad golfer, the ball would come off the club like Mike Tyson was chasing it. When I'm swinging good, I get an xtra 20-30 yrds. Buy any driver Cobra makes today and you will improve your tee shots. Proof to me is my recent scores after acquiring the F-Speed. Pre-Cobra, I had one round in the 60's. Post Cobra, 8 out of 11 rounds played have had me under par. Good drives inspire your other clubs to play better.....no one wants to be left behind!
