Cobra Electronics 29 LTD 40-Channels Base CB Radio

The Cobra 29 LTD has, literally, always been The Trucker's Choice in Mobile CB Radios - and this Trucker has owned several over his career. The 29 LTD is a heavy-duty unit, built to take the punishment of the trucking environment. It is not a Base unit, as it comes out of the box, although many people do couple a power supply with it and use it as a base station.

The 29 LTD has been around since the 1970's, in various incarnations - originally known as just the 29, and later 29 LTD. Other variations on the basic radio usually involve additional features, and added letters in the model designation - such as WX for Weather Radio reception, NW for NightWatch (backlit faceplate), and ST for SoundTracker (static reduction technology) - with the ultimate model being the 29 LTD WX NW ST (both a mouth full and a faceplate full) combining all these technologies.

One key to the 29 LTD's continuing success, is the space available inside the case for aftermarket add-ons, of which there are plenty (available at CB shops across the country). Among the most popular are an Echo/Reverb board (commonly called a Connex Board) which allows adjustable improvements in the sound of your voice - and Talkback, allowing you to hear your output level through the speaker, much like the feedback you get in the earpiece of a traditional telephone.

In addition to those two add-ons, I recommend a premium Noise-Cancelling Microphone, such as the Telex/Turner Road King 56 (another Trucker's Favorite) - and a high-quality Extension Speaker, such as the Barjan PROnouncer, or Cobra's own S100/S300/S500 series. (The S500 allows you to have the Talkback feature without having internal work done on the radio).

It is possible, with the 29 LTD as a starting point, to spend a fortune on add-ons and modifications - some legal and some illegal. Having tried many of those myself over the years, I do NOT recommend many of them, especially the illegal power boost mods that many CB shops peddle. The package that I have laid out - 29 LTD, Echo/Reverb board, Talkback, Telex mic, and good Extension Speaker, plus a good quality Antenna and Coax - will set you back a total of $200-$250, and makes a solid performing package that will serve you well for many years to come.

I first purchased a Cobra 29 about 20 years ago when I needed a good solid radio for working over the road. I had to retire it a few years ago, after several over the road trucks and a bunch of pickups. I have since purchased three or four on ebay for both myself and a few of my friends who drive locally but still want a good, reliable radio. The Cobra 29 is the best bang for the buck as far as I'm concerned. I have a couple that are tweaked and tuned and I like the way they work. They are consistantly good talkers and take the abuse of a concrete mixer, dump, and concrete pump truck. Michael

I had this radio for about a year, and i would say I am almost satisfied with it. sometimes i get some noise, but usually it works fine. I had Uniden before this one and I would have to say that cobra is a lot better. Especially when you can buy almost new or brand new unit on Ebay for less than $80.

The Cobra 29 is a great radio for your buck, plenty of mods available to suit YOUR needs.
Sure, it's no Galaxy, Connex, or Ranger, but at a fraction of what those radios cost, you can't go wrong!

The cobra 29 is the most popular Radio of the Trucking industry,it can be peaked and tuned for maximum preformance and all the npoise toys the Truckers like.

What is there to say about a Cobra 29? It is the best-loved CB radio in the
USA for good reason(s). My favorite feature is: it is very modifiable, and parts
are readily available on Ebay and other websites. This very radio has had the
Power increased to over 30 watts (from 4) by changing the stock final transistor to a more potent one, and a few other tweaks.

But, if you just want to use one in stock trim ,They are still the best for the
money and come with several options: Weather channels, sound tracker technology
for better reception in noisy situations, and the latest feature-- Bluetooth
compatibility, so your cell phone can be used through the radio. Cobra has always included a great microphone with their units, too.

Would I recommend a Cobra 29? YES- I own 5 of them.

I paid for the item in less than 1 minute after purchase. I wrote 3 letters to the seller after I had not heard from him in a week. After two more days, he wrote to say he had sent the wrong thing. I received the item and wrote him and told him it was, indeed, the wrong item. Again, over a week passed and I did not hear from him. This is going on 3 weeks since the item was purchased. I finally called him and give him an address to send my refund to and to send me a shipping lable to send the item on to the rightful buyer. A week passes and no refund or mailing lable. I finally contacted my lawyer and made arrangements to have a suit brought against him (since this happened via U.S. Mail) and wrote and called him one more time and informed him of the pending law suit. Two days later, he put the money back in my account via Pay Pal. That was not the agreement to begin with. I have not left feedback for him yet, but will soon. It will not be good. If he has no more professionalism than that, he should find something to do besides sell on EBAY. Just my opinion. Thank you for reading my letter.

I was impressed with previous ownership of this type of radio, and the free shipping and features offered were the biggest reasons I selected this particular radio. The service from this seller was excellent, and packaging and prompt shipping were very well handled. I have made considerable purchases using the ebay system this last year, and have never had an unsatisfactory experience as yet. I have many hobbies, and am a serious collector of selective types of items. I have always found a wide selection of the things I search for on ebay. The Cobra 29 series has always been a good quality radio and most truck drivers have had at least two in their possession at one time or another. I buy these radios because of the ease for resale and I have never had a bad one yet. Very easy to repair and quite a very good all around unit.

The Cobra 29 Classic is a high end CB radio with out a bunch of bells and button you'll never use! If you need a good radio to use every day or just once a year this is the one! clp!

The radio is a quality radio, the built in SWR meter is a plus that should be on all radios for easy tuning. If it is your first radio dont think its just a plug and play item. It requires some fussing with, but once its dialed in its a great rig.

I WILL NEVER BUY A USED CB ONLINE AGAIN , NOT WITH EVERYTHING IT SUPPOSE TO COME WITH , HAVING PROBLEMS COMMUNICATING WITH SELLER NOT GETTING RETURNED MAIL.I WILL NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE TWICE .

I was looking for a certain model which is no longer made and the seller had exactly what I was looking for and it was BRAND NEW still in the manufacturer's box unused and never opened..it was exactly what I was looking for. The seller had great communication and shipping was timeless..perfect..The radio arrived and works absolutely perfect...I'm 100% satisfied with the transaction, the seller, and the radio it self.

This is an excellent radio for the price. both of them work but the speaker on the cobra does not. but thats what you expect for $45.

I purchased this New Cobra 29 LTD Classic Radio approximately March 30th. I received the unit approximately 1 week thereafter.
The radio was promised to "Kick Butt". The seller advertised this unit to having been peaked and super tuned, claiming to swing to 24 watts and performing over 100% modulation.
The description also claimed, "This radio is all done. You will not have to do anything to it."
However... Upon receiving this unit, I installed it to find that
1. The SWR meter is not accurate.
2. The bright/dim button does not work at all.
3. The unit is overmodulating
4. The echo in the radio is muffled and unclear.
5. Receives less than 1 mile.

I contacted the seller to inform him of the many issues and concerns that I have with the unit and his response was " You purchase this unit 3 weeks ago and you are just now contacting me?" (We had this unit shipped from PA. to OR.. Regular mail..which can certainly take this amount of time.) "This is a new radio and you will just have to have it looked at".

I found this response to be completely unacceptable. I consider this to be unprofessional, unethical and displays bad moral character...

I was completely dissatisfied with this transaction.

do not know if radio was in good working order or not recieved radio it is broken , meter cracked , knobs bent , will not power up . paid seller a lot of money for shipping . perty sad can't even try it out

this is a very good radio I was running a cobra 19 ultra 3 and then i bought a cobra 29 ltd classic and it works supurb for the price and im a tight wad...But right now im running the 29 with my K40 antenna and I can pick up 50+ miles away easy I was listining to a guy in texas the other day no crap

Being a beginner in cb radio, the cobra 29 offers many of the same features as the high dollar cb's. Needing time to learn about the hobby, the 29 gives you good service without straining the budget.

I am very happy with my cobra 29 nightwatch, it has been very durable and strong with its output and it has a very strong incoming signal. It is also easy to use.

The Cobra 29 LTD has a great reputation for being a top performing radio. I have always been fond of Cobra products. It lives up fully to its reputation.
I decided to buy it because I felt I could buy it at a comfortable price.
