The balance is the best I've ever come across. I don't like the grips from cobra, so I put the leather grips by the grip master. Sonny Watson in Hobbs, NM. installed them and fit the clubs to my swing. He does an excellent job. I do recommend having your clubs fitted to your swing style. It makes for a better game. My cobra CB irons have the rifle shafts in them and are great. You can swing without feeling the flex, or that vibration you get with other shafts. They are a very smoothe, good looking club that I am pleased with. This is my 5th set of Cobra irons, and I like them as good as the tour blades I just quit using. When I first saw the clubs, I could'nt get over the design of them. I could feel my handycap getting lower before I bought them. It has gone from 10.4 to 9.0 in 2 months. What a design.

CB Irons Great: Stand Up to Titleist 755 and Mizuno 60
Review created: 10/03/07

First off, my handicap runs between a 7 and 9 (depending on whether I play my home course a lot or not) and the Cobras represent my third switch this year. I started with the Titleist 755s, which were pretty good, then went to the Mizuno MP60s, which I loved, and am now working with the Cobra CBs. So far, so good.

As a frame of reference for my comments on the CBs, the 755s are a solid club, but I had trouble getting the high ball flight I need to make the ball stop on the greens (better players who put more spin on the ball than I can love the 755s and I understand completely). The MP60s are absolutely great -- VERY soft feel, VERY high trajectory, and VERY workable. But I wanted to try something else because I lost about 8-12 yards per club with the MP60s, which created a gap between my 4-iron (165-170 at best) and my 4-Hybrid (190). If I hadn't lost the distance, I would still be with the MP60s and playing my best golf of the year.

These Cobras are not as soft-feeling as the Mizunos -- there is a little more harshness/vibration in the ballstrike and the sound (which experts say translates into feel) is duller, but the ball flight is excellent. They are (as advertised) longer than the MP60s from everywhere, a little longer than the 755s off the tee and from the rough, and are as workable as the others, despite the fact that they are not a true forged club -- in fact, because of the cavity back I suspect, fades and draws are much more controllable with the Cobras than was true of the 755s or the MP60s. I can turn the ball in both directions without adjusting my grip, but by just opening or closing my stance slightly, with the result that I get about 5 to 10 yards of drift, which is all I usually want. The high ball flight from these clubs provides me all the bite I need (in my first round with these, I got an uphill 6-iron from 162 yards to grip two-feet from the pitch mark!), pretty amazing for a forged club. I've hit each club about 200 times in the past week on the range, and taken them out for only one round, but on this small evidence would recommend these for midrange players looking for control, forgiveness (I am losing almost no distance and getting a tight dispersion from mishits, which for me tend to be hitting a little chubby occasionally, towards the toe on short irons and towards the heel on long irons), and the ability to work the ball in both directions without having to change your swing radically (which for me can sometimes promote some weird strikes). If I get used to the vibration and dull sound of these things, the Cobras will be my A set for a couple of years, otherwise it's back to the MP60s and some changes in the hybrid I use to gap the spread between my 4-iron and 5-wood. Hope this helps if you are considering these -- by the way, both Golf and Golf Digest rate all three of the irons mentioned as best or near best in class for Players Irons, and I would agree...it comes down to preferences.

Well, where to start. I like to switch irons from time to time. In fact these Cobras are the 5th set I have used this year. I had Taylor Made R-7 Tps, Titleist 695mb, Cleveland Cg-4 tours, and Titleist 755's. All good sets. The Cobras stand above them all in my opinion. Better feel and look for me. Look like a blade from the top and set up very nice. Dynamic Gold shaft is still the best shaft out there. The thing I like about these irons is the feedback, if you hit a good shot you can feel it while hitting a less than perfect shot you can feel that too. Very good feedback. Easy to work the ball too! These irons can do anything you can make them do. I do not believe a high handicapper will be able to just go out and play them well right away though. But, if you want to get better these could help you learn the feel of a good shot versus bad instead of some of those other clubs that feel the same no matter where you hit them. Looks, feel and performance of blades with the benefits of being a cavity back. I have found my set of irons and will not be trying any new ones anytime soon. I would highly recommend these irons for the mid to low handicapper that maybe does not get to play as much as needed to play blades consistantly and the mid to higher handicapper that wants to improve, these will either make you learn to hit the center or you probably wont like them. I do think these are the best clubs Cobra has ever come out with.

Cobra CB Carbon Irons - My next set!
Review created: 06/11/07(updated 07/20/07)
4 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I started playing with an original set of (King) Cobra irons circa 1985 made long before they were acquired by Acushnet/Titleist(et al). I hit the CB Carbon irons at our Cobra Demo last week-end here in Colonie, NY and have 2 observations about these irons:
(1) on a scale of 1-10 they are a 9.5, near perfect in feel, balance and shape. I do not agree with the factory hype that they are for "the better player". They are for anyone who understands how to properly swing an iron and how to hit a ball out of their own shadow. With these irons to start with any player regardless of ability is going to improve faster and enjoy doing it without all the hype about "forgiveness" and "sweet spot size."
I've been hitting graphite shafted irons for a while(I'm an "old guy", 58) so those Dynamic Golds revived a lot of pleasant memories, being a good shaft for these heads that are sweet and confidence-inspiring, hardly the touchy or easy to mis-hit irons that some better players grumble about like the Titleist, Mizuno or Hogan "pro", or the "better player" PING s5 models.
I didn't care for the Cobra factory grips but that's no big deal, is it? I didn't like the Nike factory grips either but they are still on my woods.

(2)if I did not already own two identical sets of Callaway X-12's (2 homes 3600 mi apart) I'd be buying a set of Cobra CB's on EBay next week. They feel superb, you can work the ball with only subtle swing and /or grip adjustment UNLIKE my Callaway x-12's which are a superb iron for the motivated 20 hcp hacker I used to be. I improved my game using them, no complaints.
THe Cobra CB's ARE "cavity backs", blade-small heads with a delightful thin top-line with solid feel and feedback on every swing. THis is a precise head to hit if you are focused and looking to score and playing with your A game on.

Last note: I noticed surface rust in the corners on most of the iron set I hit which is explained (perhaps) by this higher carbon content the Cobra folks are rapping about as part of the 'soft' feel. Remember that old chef's knife (which you probably wish that you had kept years later) that you could sharpen to a razor edge with just a few licks of the stone got rusty, too, but it sure cut like the dickens!!!! Anyone who objects to your spotty clubs on the course you should probably trade in for a new single player at the turn....

  Cobra Carbon Cavity Back.
Review created: 02/17/09

After playing solid Irons in my years of enjoying this game. I've played Cavities and Forged irons. But I must say that, King Cobra really came out with a Great Eye appealing set. These Irons have no offset what so ever. And they feel and play like
Forgiving Irons. I must say these are not for your 15Handicap or Higher players. You must have a good knowledge or low Handicap to know how to take full advantage of these Irons. If you Fade your shots you can play these. If your Draw you can play these also. And if your a player who likes to shape their shots. Then these will go in nicely in your bag. Overall I recommend these Irons for players with 5Handicap trying to go lower or even to scratch.

  COBRA CB Tour Irons

My handicap varies from 2-5, and I initially bought these clubs to upgrade from the COBRA 3100 I's that I've played for the last couple of years.

This is a great looking golf club that really feels good in your hands; particularly if you are a good ball striker. It is certainly the best looking iron that COBRA has put on the market. These clubs will give you the ability to work the ball, and will give you instant feedback on a poor swing. When you connect with the sweet spot there is a great feeling of control and power with these sticks. The true sweet spot on these clubs appears to be about the size of a dime; but it is sweet when you hit it.

On the negative side for the average player, these clubs are not as forgiving as the various game improvement irons that COBRA has marketed in the past, and are thus not for the timid or weak ball strikers. Mis-hits can really be ugly. This is definately a club for the more accomplished player, and double digit handicappers would not be happy playing these clubs.

Overall, I am so impressed with these clubs that (if I could afford it at present) I would give the COBRA Tour MB series a try, as that's the club that the COBRA tour players are using. On a scale of 1-10 I give the COBRA CB Tour Irons a good solid 9.

  Very nice set of clubs

Just ordered a set from Cobra and they are great. They are a slightly heavier swing weight (D3) and strike the ball very solidly. With the custom fitting I have added 10 yds over my old oversized clubs. They do take some getting used to as they are more of a "players" club. They have minimal off-set and a thin topline which can be awkward if you are used to larger off-set irons. They are very workable and are a little more forgiving than other high-end irons. I tested them against the Titliest 755 and found them to give better feedback on miss-hits and a more solid feel at impact.

These clubs make it very easy to work the ball, but at the same time have great distance forgiveness on off-center hits. I also gained about 15 yards more on these clubs compared to my Reven Blade irons I had before. Overall, a great set of clubs for the mid-handicapper looking to work the ball.

I bought the set of Irons because they were listed as a 7.5 out 10. They were more like 6.5 out 10. Deep gashes in several heads. I feel that the seller was over promising the condition of the irons. I wouldn't have bought them if I new that this was the condition I was paying for.

It is to big of head to work but not much offset to help the average golf this is a hit and miss iron. good on distance but it really only suits the middle golfer.
