Cobra 148 GTL 120-Channels Base CB Radio

This is a full featured CB Radio. Has full legal power of 4 watts on AM and 12 watts on SSB (upper and lower bands) which gives you access to 120 'channels'. SSB (Single Side Band) is great when working skip or just want to get through the mess that AM at times may give you. Has a built in SWR meter to see if you antenna is tuned correctly, adjustable tone and mike gain controls, switchable ANL / NB for noise reduction and you can even use this CB radio as a public address system capability when installed with a PA speaker; (check local enforcement for legalities of use).

How can you tell that your getting a new model? Easy... The new model Cobra 148GTL have a front panel microphone connector for convenient in-dash installation.

Works great as a mobile or base station. The ideal base station would have at least a 7.5 amp power supply and perhaps a desktop mike and external speaker. Of course you will also need a high quality base station antenna.

radio is very nice in apperance.plays very good on am and on side band.clarifier unlocked and working nicely.has become one of my favorite radios since adding it to about 20 others.must have been kept in a clean dry place, because even the knobs feel good when turning them.tech did good work on this one,peeking out,and aligning transmit with recieve.

I liked the item but with misleading INFO about he "SUPPOSEABLY SHIPPED THE COBRA 148"----AND IT WAS "NEVER RECEIVED", EVERYONE, WATCHOUT FOR THIS GUY. I PAID FOR MY RADIO AND HE NEVER SHIPPED IT AND FED ME A BUNCH OF LIES!!! YOU RUN ACROSS PEOPLE LIKE THIS AND WITH HIS "GREAT RATING", I TRUSTED HIM BUT AS IN ANYTHING IN "LIFE", YA LIVE AND LEARN! First it is not a base. Second it doesn't describe the actual radio being bought which is suspect to me. You don't get any informatiom about what you are buying but being mislead on what the radio is.It is not a base station which leads me to believe that either the seller is not knowlwedgable of his product or is being deceptive. Final Analysis is: I wouldn't buy this radio. This section should be about the item as much as it is the general description of the product. An introduction description is propoer but the actual item should be described. This item may not work at all & the seller would just tell you to bad I didn't say it worked.

I bought this radia and I had to spend 35.00 to get fix .The guy told me it was working when sold it to me Iknow he said asas but some times you belive this guy won't lie to you

The new modern Cobra 148 GTL is rubbish, i have had plenty of radios through my hands in my time and these cheap imitations are to be avoided, my advice would be to track down a 148GTL-DX from the 80's or if you want to buy new then a Superstar 3900 is a far superior radio compared to the new Cobras, infact i would stay clear of any of the new Cobra range as the manufacture has been very economical with quality components, stay clear!

I decided to buy this CB radio because it is the best. I only say that because I prefer Cobra radio's as a pose to other radios out there. Now I have owned many CB radios through out my life but this is the first time I bought a new in the box radio. What I don't like about it is that the new Cobra 148 GTL is now made in China instead of the Philippines but that is ok it seems to transmit just fine locally and long distance.

This unit seems to work quite well at this time. If I have one complaint it would be the large size of the unit, which make it difficult to install in a Jeep, but that is my problem not Cobra's. I live in southern Arizona and spend a lot of time out in the desert four wheeling and Geocaching. I use it to stay in contact with other club members and as a life line since we usually have no cell phone service in the desert. We'll see how this unit holds up in the desert heat and dust.

The older 148S incorporated the best filtering ever designed in a cb radio has the best channel rejection and are a servicable radio compaired to todays surface mount technology. The newer ones have more bells and whistles but for a radio with loud audio and the best recieve this is the radio of a technicians and owners choice.

cobra 148-GTL has been a favorite of mine for almost 20 years this is a great radio with dependability the one I purchased was in great shape overal with some minor wear from use. It was well worth the money spent and recomend these to anyone on the road evry day as a dependable unit.

This is for the uniden-manufactured Cobra 148GTL, made in Taiwan or the Philipines. The RCI-made radios (identified by "Made in Malaysia" [148F] or "Made in The Malaysia") are OK but suffer some quality control issues such as improperly heated solder joints, etc. They can be attended to by a tech and brought up to the quality level of a uniden radio, so don't despair if you have one that is 'Made in the Malaysia'.

I understand the newest 148 front mic radios are as good as these old Uniden models, but I have not personally yet evaluated one.

The Uniden made 148 is perhaps the best CB radio ever made. It has 40 channels, AM and Single Sideband (USB + LSB) operating modes, operates at full FCC limits, remains stable on frequency, can handle a lot of abuse and continue on as if nothing was affecting it. The receive is par excellence - able to pull in weak stations better than perhaps any other radio that can operate on CB frequencies (including amateur equipment), adjacent channel rejection is unmatched, noise levels are unparalleled, and the Automatic Gain Control (AGC) circuit does its job very well - it prevents the receiver front end from overloading due to an exceptionally strong signal. The radio also transmits well and is well known for its capabilities. However, a transmitter is a transmitter and what sits the Cobra 148GTL apart from all other CB radios is its slice-of-heaven receiver. Bottom line - if you want to sound loud and proud, this radio will do that - as will any other properly tuned radio - but if you want to have a receive that matches the transmit, this is your only choice.

Although I own a few 148's, I have not purchased one on E-bay!!! Could not comment on the new 148's, as all of mine are 1994 and older.

I dont know about the newer versions, but i have heard nothing but bad reports about the new 148 GTLs made in China. I have owned several of the older pre 1995 versions, and they are GREAT!! The 8719 PLL chassis that is used in the 148 GTL and a few other models has the best receiver ive ever seen. The AM receiver is dual conversion and very sensitive. The TX audio is above par and will compete with the bigger export radios and if the audio chain is modded the right way the radio will sound great! If you can find a decent used 148 GTL (the older version made in Malaysia or the Philippines) get it you cant go wrong.

I was very disgusted because spending that much money on something and it didnt work at all. I am having to have it worked on so I can use it.

I have had one or another version of the 148 since they came out in the 70's and the new one is just as good if not better than the previous versions. Not only that they hold their value so if you buy it right to begin with you can usually get most of your money back when you upgrade.

Last version I owned was the 148NWST night watch signal tracker - just the same 148 with different backlights and signal tracker neither of witch were much of an addition to the 148 series.

I brought the New 148GTL on a hunch, I hoped it would have a good receive and it does! The up side is the tone control and a super signal to noise ratio. The down side is if there's one is the transmitter is real tight, but it puts out a full 4+ watts on AM and 12+ watts on SSB. I use it for a Base radio and could not be happier with it. You can have it on all day long and there is no lessening fatigue, great for a trucker that likes to use his radio a lot.

I've seen this hype posted about the newer 148GTl. Nothing is further from the truth.

The original 148GTL were Uniden designs, but the Cobra and Uniden union fell apart and now Cobra got cheap, cheap, made in china boards.

Any Cobra is not worth the powder to blow 'em.
