Coach Carter (DVD, 2005, Full Screen Collection)

Before reading my review of 'Coach Cater' - let me preface by saying that I'm a sucker for any sports movie. Rocky IV is my favorite movie of all time. I loved Remember the Titans, Million Dollar Baby, Raging Bull, etc.

In typical sports drama fashion, Coach Cater is the story of a coach who challenges his lost players to be betters athletes, sportsmen and people. Samuel L Jackson plays Coach Carter - the provocative and controversial coach who challenges his inner-city basketball team to dedicate themselves to his philosophy, their game, and their schoolwork. In the meantime, Carter is challenging the school-district, his family, and himself to assess their values and beliefs. Putting himself and his family on the line to advance the futures of his players, Carter asks the district, the school, and the players to do the same... and over time, the majority convert.

Samuel Jackson does a fine job as the passionate, hard-headed basketball coach and former player. The players and surrounding actors do a similarly fine job portraying their respective characters.

The most satisfying moment of the movie comes at the end when we learn what happened to the real-life players the actors portrayed... proving that the movie is not some far-fetched reenactment.

One of the greatest basketball movies of all time. I loved the movie. Samuel L Jackson was amazing. His best movie.

I had low expectations for this movie- but I was very pleasantly surprized.

Samuel Jackson plays an inner city coach who must battle not only a history of severely losing records, but players who are subject to gangs, academic failure, and teenage pregnancy and a host of other problems.

His role is teaching the players not only basketball, but the importance of goals and studies. He battles with the principal, the parents, and a history of low expectations by society, the school board, and even the players themselves.

In what could have been a canned "Cinderella Story" the movie takes some surprizing turns. You won't always be able to guess what's next.

A feel good film. (This one's definitely not for watching when kiddos are around -- language and situational violence.)

Awesome movie !!! My son read the book in High School English class and said it was really good, so we went ahead and got the movie...
We loved it !!! Should be shown in all High School Classrooms..

The acting was good and showed just what a teacher must do if he wants his student to succeed in life. I believe that if all teachers worked this way, that a lot of our students these days would not be dropping out of school and getting into trouble.
I would recommend that everyone should see this movie, it is quite informative.

Uplifting message of responsibility & empowerment. I have a neice that is a teacher & coach. I bought it for her as a gift & she found it to be painfully real but hopeful.

Coach carter is a jaw dropping good movie that has it all. It's inspiring, realistic and a good basketball movie that you will want watch again and again

We bought this movie as it appeared to be very inspirational and energetic, and offered a great acting cast, including Samuel L. Jackson and the kid from "Step Up".

Overall, it is an EXCELLENT film!!!

A very inspirational movie that shows how true commitment, dedication, and hard work can lead to great rewards!

The positive influence and work of Carters extensive conditioning/training happened much sooner than we would have preferred. It happened soon after the movie begin(within the first 20 minutes or so), and we would have preferred to see the results more towards the middle of the movie. The movie is over two-hours long, and will keep your attention all the way through.

RENT or BUY? Definitely BUY IT!!

Based on a True Story.

This is a great story about a businessman who returns to his high school to take over as head coach of their basketball team. The team members seem to have forgotten that their main purpose of being in high school is to learn the basic 3-R's. The movie is excellent in it's presentation and content, and sends a powerful message to teenagers that all play and no work leads to a disasterous path as an adult.

I saw this movie at a relatives house in CA over the last holidays, and decided that it was simply too good to not share with my friends. So, I bought a used copy on eBay, and I am delighted with the entire transaction and decision to purchase a movie I had already seen.

I have been trying to find this movie but it seems every place had a higher shipping rate than the actual movie. Great choice.

everything about this movie was inspiring!just to know there are people out there who care about the next generation makes me happy to live in the good old USA!

This is kind of a long movie, but very worth spending the time to watch it. Very inspiring and uplifting!!
