Clues in the Calico by Barbara Brackman

B. Brackman is considered one of "the" if not "the" expert on the history of fabric in quilts. She is extremely knowledgeable as she began her own collection and continued studying dated quilts to determine the history of fabric used in quilting. Any book dealing with this topic will refer to this specific book in establishing dates of fabric and types of quilts made during specific eras. It is the reference book for anyone who enjoys knowing the history or evolution of quilts, where they were made and what materials were used in the construction. The book published in 1989 has not been reprinted. At this point Barbara continues to design fabric from various time periods and to be a well known lecturer. There is no indication the book will be reprinted in the near future. Thus, anyone who enjoys research will at some time want to refer to this book. She is the author of other books dealing with the history of quilts during specific time periods. I own other of her books and this one will be the "jewel" in the collection.
