Close Encounters of the Third Kind (DVD, 2001, 2-Disc Collector's Edition)

Forgetting the fact this movie is almost 30 years old, we all must have been bowled over to realize that even the main stream movie industry had enough sense to study into and show us the first on-screen rendition of the so-called GREYS. The children Greys were very freaky and it also shows us a real lanky Grey with long arms.

Thanks Hollywood. This movie was true genius and captures the excitement of actually thinking that the aliens are actually interested in contacting us now in a friendly and loving way.

I'll have to give this movie a 5/5, since it is considered the best movie ever to UFO lovers all around the world.

This film was one of the first to introduce a beautiful meeting between earthlings and visitors from outer space. For its time, the effects were stunning. The character development was wonderful. You developed a relationship with the main characters. You felt what they felt. The script was brilliant. In a day of movies that depict us fighting with aliens, this will be a refreshing change of pace.

This DVD contains a lot of extra scenes that were not seen in theaters, in fact they were not even shot at the time of the picture's original release. The interview with Carey Guffey (the little kid) is especially good. Enjoy!

This was a NIB, the seal had not been broken. DVD's played great, no problems. Color/dialog excellent..............Great buy

Great all time classic movie. Good for a family movie night. Some profanity to watch for in case of young children viewing. Otherwise, lots of fun to watch. The 2 disk collectors addition is a good gift idea.

I've been watching this movie since I was a kid. It is a real classic and well worth adding to any DVD collection. Do yourself a favor and get it today.

I bought this movie because I heard it was good. I viewed it and thought it was ok. The problem I have with this movie is that it's too long. The movie could have been shorter and some of the scenes were a bit drawn out.But if you are into sci-fi go get a copy.

I have always been interested in UFO's and it had been many years since I saw this one so I wanted to see it again. Wouldn't you know it though, I bought it and the week I bought it, AMC had the movie playing!

I feel it was a well portrayed movie of the time it reminds me of the unknown objects we seen one October night in the late 50s as my family and I was leaving my uncles farm in northeastern Pa. thousands of people seen it from Canada to Florida and every one that saw it commented about it as being a bright light which seemed to be right in their back yard and how it zig zaged through the sky as it rose at rapped speeds and then would stop for a few seconds and move across the sky and shoot straight up into the stars and disappear into the cold October night with the only known explanation from the press or government was said to be after so many people called the military, state police,and federal departments the USAF made a statement as I can recall to the affect that it was a experimental rocket that went hay wire off of the Jersey Coast from a Navy launch site and even now when we get together at family events someone will bring up that unforgetful night

The DVD was great. My daughters have never seen it until I purchased it and they loved it. Thank you so much. I decided to buy it because I mentioned the movie to them and for the price I paid for, it was worth it!!

This movie is a classic that we wanted for our collection. There is nothing I dont like about it. If you like classic movies this is a must have for the movie collecter.

Filmed 90% in Mobile,AL including real homes that are still lived in today, an actual train crossing sets the stage for the first on-screen "encounter" - Close Encounters of the Third Kind is a Benchmark for innovations that appear in Sci-Fi films of Today. It actually was the first movie to test CGI, but the results were deemed not on par with what they needed. So the final effects were ground breaking in that methods were used that bring real looking convincing scenes that make you say to yourself "I think that's really there" instead of "wow, they did a great job with that effect". They easily stand up to today's CGI polish!! Truly a classic that brings out the beauty of wonder, eye bathing effects, and the deep down inside of you longing to consider the possibilities of "what's out there"!

I loved this movie when I first saw it in the theater years ago and the magic is still there. My only beef with this particular DVD is that it doesn't include the extended footage of Roy Neary entering the U.F.O. at the end in the body of the movie--which is the way I first saw it. Instead, it includes the additional footage in the "extras" or deleted scenes.....which is kind of inconvenient. All in all a great film. A must see!

I had seen the movie "Close Encounters of the Third Kind " previously so I knew what to expect as far as the movie. I was well satisfied with the quality of the DVD and the promptness with which I recieved it.

Or,Its' original title "watch the Skies" ........THIS DVD is of the ORIGINAL release.The second DVD has interviews with cast and crew ,pLUS some deleted scenes I was never aware of !!

Even better than I remember it when it came out in the 70's. It's message is timeless. It is a Steven Spielberg film, it has to be good. I bought this because my VHS was wearing out.

Here is a dvd collection that I had been looking for a while.As a novice ufologist,and owner of the first dvd,I was on wishing upon a star for a great dvd.The only thing is that you get an additional disc that gives all the ins and outs of the making and deleted scenes.I was more interested in movie itself.Hoping it would have been a transfer of the directors cut of the vhs.That version showed the inside of the mothership at the end of the movie.It was not shown in theatres and that is the one I was hoping to get in this collection.
