Album Notes The four-man Clipse spin-off crew--made up of the Clipse brothers Pusha T and Malice, and Philly cats Ab Liva and Sandman-- built a name on the strength of the street mixtapes WE GOT IT 4 CHEAP VOLUMES I, II, and III. On their self-titled debut studio LP, the Re-Up Gang stay focused, spinning more hardcore street-life narratives centered on coke-flipping, flouting local law enforcement, and reaping the materialistic rewards of their neverending hustle. The rhymes are quick, slick, and accessible--as Pusha T proclaims on the Scott Storch-produced lead single, "Fast Life": "It's the almighty duo, you know/Critically acclaimed, moving weight like a sumo." The beats are consistently cinematic, relying on minimalist piano loops, dramatic string arrangements, and even marching drum tracks.
Editorial Reviews Few rappers working today can match the audacious wordplay and caustic charisma that this quartet's members have brought to their much-downloaded mixtapes. -- Grade: B+ Entertainment Weekly

3 stars out of 5 -- [A] writer's workshop, with the fastidious wordsmiths staying sharp by trying to constantly best each other, verse by verse, punch line by punch line. Spin
