They call this Bluegrass; but to me it sounds more like traditional Appalachian music with a little Bluegrass on the side.
I know Ralph Stanley is a great artist; so naturally I expected this CD to be good. I've never been disappointed with any of the Stanley Brothers records I've bought, and the same goes for Ralph's recordings.
I was in for a shock when I pressed the Play button to start this CD, however.
The music was far beyond being good; or even great. It was sublimely beautiful and soul satisfying.
The band sounds fantastic, and the vocals are pure, crystalline perfection.
I can't tell you this is the best Bluegrass or Appalachian record ever made; because there's a whole lot of music out there in those styles that I haven't heard; but I will humbly state that this is the best Mountain Music recording I'VE ever heard.
