City of Ember (DVD, 2009, Checkpoint; Sensormatic; Widescreen)

This underground city was really falling apart when we catch up to them. This edge-of-your-seat adventure never ceases to surprise and amaze you and reminds us all that progress only comes out of massive failure.

Martin Landau of Space 1999 was excellent in this film and I'm glad to still see him in great roles. I have to hand it to Tom Hanks for having the vision to make such a dramatic and spectacular film.

Although this movie was rated PG, there were plenty of scary moments and creatures to keep a young child jumping under the covers, but the family as a whole could watch this safely.

This movie teaches that working together is important, but that sometimes, taking chances and being courageous are important.

Bill Murray, Tim Robbins, and Saoirse Ronan were great in their roles

A must see and a must keeper. 5 stars ***** 5/5

Bought it for my grandson. They are reading the book in school. He has watched this several times and even got his cousins to watch it with him. I have not watched it but it must be good

I read the book to my class and wanted to see how the movie rated compared to the book. The movie is OK but takes a lot of liberties with the book. If you are only going to get to know City of Ember one way, READ THE BOOK.

I saw this movie when it came out, and I liked it then. It was about civilization having to live underground for 200 years, and was suppose to go back to the surface. But things got misplaced and forgotten. Then 2 kids began to figure out in time about going to the unknown as their world was breaking down. I liked how it showed some ideas of how to live underground. And how it would look if we had to do it. At least one way of how things would look.

I thought this fantasy film was very enjoyable, and having seen it more than once I decided to finally purchase it. It's basically about a small secret town built underground called City of Ember where everything seems perfect until the power starts going out and strange things start to happen. It's up to two good friends to try and find an outing before it's too late. Bill Murray (whom I adore) plays the mysterious Mayor of the city who also does a terrific acting job in his role. Packed with action and adventure, also some humor, this movie is perfect! Although because this one has some scary content, young children should be accompanied by an older crowd (or parent). You should buy it, it's worth it!

I have completed reading the first two books of this series and wanted to put faces to the characters. For the most part it follows the book's storyline very well. There is no profanity which is a huge plus. There are four books in this series so I hope to continue the movie saga. Children under ten might have a hard time grasping the plot and adults might find it too bogged down.

Basically, 200+ years ago, the world was on the brink of destruction, and in a last ditch attempt to save a few, the people known as 'The Builders' created an underground haven for a group of people to survive. This place, the size of a town, is maintained by 'The Generator'. However, power is going of increasingly often, and whispers say that 'The Generator', which has sustained them for decades, is finally failing....

It is up to a couple of teenagers to find what 'The Builders' left for the people underground, and save themselves, their friends, and the whole community before they're plunged into endless darkness.

It was an enjoyable movie, and I'm interested a bit, in reading the book(s).

It's fairly simple, I really enjoyed this movie and knew I'd like to see it many more times, so I purchased it. I purchased it on eBay, because I knew I could get a really good price for a new copy from a variety of sellers that I could trust to send me the product that they had listed.

Somehow this movie got a bad wrap from everyone but me -something I don't understand. It wasn't a poor film, it may have been much better in the book (haven't read) but I thought it was a fantastically original and fun adventure. I'm definitely going to recommend it to my younger crowd of friends.

After placing my order, my order was canceled by the seller without any real reason, other than "Canceled, unable to ship item!

This was definitely a sci-fi / adventure film. A somewhat strange story line, but did have suspense, intrigue, and some adventure. This will not be added to our "favorites" playlist, but not bad to see once. Do not remember any bad language in it, either....which is good!

City of Ember is very good movie and slight something not usual I can see. Just like in Japan have real "city of ember" somewhere in hidden. Good and have closed caption or subtitle english captioned.

This was a great movie. It was an adventure for the whole family.
Make it a family night with this movie.
