Lots of exhaustive information, but it's all true
I just finished reading The Cigarette Century. Though it is very long, often losing me in the minute details, it was very informative. I had no idea of all the maneuvering behind the scenes of government to protect this narcotic. Brandt meticulously lays out the history and legality of cigarettes. From early rolling machines, through Joe Camel to multinational corporations, his arguments are supported by decades of research and data. Secret deals, basically buying legislation that helps the industry carry on its deadly work. This book was required ready for a History of Medicine in America class I am taking. If it doesn't open your eyes then you are truly living in a fog.
