Author does a "Hitchcock" during the film, very surreal, but funny.

THE ACTING IS AWESOME IN THIS FILM.MICHEAL CAINE IS SO GOOD HE'LL MAKE YOU CRY.YOU'LL SEE WHY HE WON THE AWARD FOR BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR IN THE FIRST FIVE MINUTES OF THIS FILM HE IS THAT GOOD.STORY LINE IS AWSOME AS WELL,YOU'RE NEVER BOARD DURRING IT.

This not a hollywood rubber stamp plot movie. It is a supurb
piece. Completely Unique. Awesome Plot. Great casting.
Michael Cane was spectaular in it.
It gives you an idea of what it was like for a child to live in an orphange.
A different point of view. It has other things in it as well.
so I won't spoil it for you. Definitely a "Must See"

This should be for adults or at least almost adults because of the subject matter and some violent content. But it is a terrific movie that will give you food for thought. It has great acting by all of the characters.

We meet a young orphan from the time of his birth at a home for unwed mothers and their offspring. Irving can take a simple story and make it multi-faceted, as in the tradition of 19th Century writers like Dickens and Trollope. But the setting is 1940s lobster country, in Maine, isolated and rugged as the characters themselves. The black work crew that harvests apple crops figures heavily into the work, treated sensitively and respectfully by the author. That the young man ascends way past his expectations makes the ending fulfilling. Michael Caine's portrayal of the orphanage director is superb.

We love the Cider House Rules......I was watching tv and missed alot and went on ebay to get. We have watched it so many times.....wonderful movie.....real love and emotions of people.....great! would highly recomend it.Bobbbie jean

Great actors and wonderful storyline but very slow movie. I had heard it was a true story but not sure about that. I am trying to find out because if it was a true story I think I would have enjoyed it more while I watched it.

Theron and McGuire show great ability in this film. A cute and touching story about love and about early periods of history and culture. The film keeps the audience entertained and constantly filled with hope. Great movie with a great understanding of human compassion and love! Must See!

A step back in time. A huge dose of reality. A human story about reality and life's hardships. The chance to reflect on how far we have come and how far we yet have to go, even this many years later. Excellent acting allows the story to come across

Have been looking for the DVD to purchase. Great movie about life in a very New England setting, when people realy cared about each other

Have seen this movie a long time ago but the cast is great so wanted to have it to watch whenever. Looking forward to another viewing.
