A jewel from better gaming days... 15 of 15 people found this review helpful.
I've been gaming all my life, and I doubt there'll ever be a game quite like Chrono Trigger. Sure, it's from an old gaming system, but the characters are great, the story is compelling, and the music, despite 16-bit limitations, is nothing short of spectacular. The story goes trough numerous periods of time, as the characters try to stop the apocalypse at the hands of an alien monster. The throught of time travel may seem cheezy, but you see your efforts take effect in future times. Giving food to a woman will cause her greedy ancestor (400 years later) to become generous and giving. A character can go back, and prevent her mother from being crippled in an accident, and with the player's help, and desert can be changed into a vast forest. The game even sports 12 different endings, based on what point in time you defeat the main boss, which, thanks to the New Game+ feature unlocked after beating the game once, makes this game worth playing for weeks. I'm sure gamers more devoted to modern games won't care too much about an old game like this, but if you're a fan of retro games, or love RPG's, you owe it to yourself to check out Chrono Trigger. It might be a bit expensive, but take my word for it, it is well worth every cent.

Chrono Trigger 'A Game to be Remembered' Quick Review Review created: 09/23/08(updated 09/23/08) 5 of 6 people found this review helpful.
When Nintendo Power released screen shots of what was to be known as Chrono Trigger, I went nuts. I knew that a game with similar graphics to Secret Of Mana was going to be something promising, something out of this world, and was it ever. As soon as I put my Chrono Trigger cart into my SNES I felt the magic right away(boy did Squaresoft know how to make games back then). This game has it all for an RPG. The graphics are superior, the music by Yasunori Mitsuda was the kind of music that gelled with this game, I can safely say that Yasunori was the right man for the job. If anything the soundtrack can be listened to for hours at a time. Now like every other great RPG this had the map feature, smooth graphics and awesome game play. The fighting sequence was a little different to that of the early Final Fantasy games but different if a good way and it's always hard to compete against Final Fantasy, it's actually really comparable to the style of Secret of Mana. The story line was so magical, each character with a unique personality. As soon as you start the game the adventure begins from the get go. Now what makes this game truly unique is the fact you can 'time travel' to figure out clues and unlock certain stories. You also have the ability to use Techs which are character attack moves. Depending on who's in your party you can learn Techs that involve all 3 characters, very cool. This game truly deserves a 10/10 for it's uniqueness and overall game play. This is the total package when it comes to RPGs and I don't want to say anything more to give away the game. So if you haven't tried it don't waste anymore time and pick up a copy. Your Friend Kefka
