Chrono Trigger (Super Nintendo, 1995)

I've been gaming all my life, and I doubt there'll ever be a game quite like Chrono Trigger. Sure, it's from an old gaming system, but the characters are great, the story is compelling, and the music, despite 16-bit limitations, is nothing short of spectacular.

The story goes trough numerous periods of time, as the characters try to stop the apocalypse at the hands of an alien monster. The throught of time travel may seem cheezy, but you see your efforts take effect in future times. Giving food to a woman will cause her greedy ancestor (400 years later) to become generous and giving. A character can go back, and prevent her mother from being crippled in an accident, and with the player's help, and desert can be changed into a vast forest. The game even sports 12 different endings, based on what point in time you defeat the main boss, which, thanks to the New Game+ feature unlocked after beating the game once, makes this game worth playing for weeks.

I'm sure gamers more devoted to modern games won't care too much about an old game like this, but if you're a fan of retro games, or love RPG's, you owe it to yourself to check out Chrono Trigger. It might be a bit expensive, but take my word for it, it is well worth every cent.

This game sux, it is too over rated, sure, some may think that they are getting the best game ever, and it is composed among the best of the time, but it is too over priced here in ebay. Look for it in a flea market. It is waayyyy cheaper.

This game is easily one of the best rpgs ever created.

Pros: Original and engaging story, interesting and diverse characters, time travel, excellent music, a refined combat system, no random battles, after beating the game you can start a new game with your leveled up characters, and there are quite a few different endings as well.

Cons: Chrono Trigger costs a pretty penny, and it isn't a rare game. However, you really are getting what you pay for. I remember this game retailing for $69.99 when it was first released, so at the very least you'll probably pay less than I did if you buy it from ebay or amazon.

This game is what every RPG should be, this game I actually didnt receive until after the snes was already obsolete. It was the first RPG I ever played and I still get it out once a year to play through it. It takes about 24 hours to beat.

You could look back to games on NES and argue, "That is where the modern day RPG originated, but Chrono Trigger is where it all started. This game has the best story line inoovative before its time fighting system and graphics for the SNES that will blow your mind. This game is definetly worth the money and great addition for the collector or game enthusiast.

When I first got my hands on the game, I rented it a year after the release in 96, and had never heard of it. I have seldom had such a pleasent suprise... I ended up buying the game and to this day it remains one of the top games in my collection. I only hope there will be another collaboration of game-making geniousness, of that calliber again. "Chrono Trigger" remains (in my opinion) the best console RPG ever made.

This game is pure bliss. I have been playing this game over and over since it was first released in the U.S. I recently bought a new copy of it, and even my wife is addicted to it. She won't stop playing it, and when i ask to play it she hisses and attacks me til i run off to hide under the shed and nurse my wounds. ;-)

Chrono Trigger is one of the best games of all time.

I finally played Chrono Trigger last year and it was fun. One thing I am not a fan of is if I do one thing that means I do not get the great armor, weapon etc. I had the guide so I did get a sense of the multiple endings. If you enjoy rpg’s and you like the look of Secret of Evermore (my favorite) or Final Fantasy III then you will like this game too.
There is a good size world to investigate, and I did like the time factor and seeing the differences it made to the terrain and the new people to talk with. I can see why people give it a perfect score, and why it would be near and dear to some people. That is why I say at the top that I think scoring has to do with when you play a game, and the time you have for it. It all melds together for a near and dear experience or a “yeah that was fun” kind of game. Anybody who plays a role-playing game knows to grab a pen and paper when they start the game up.

This game is so well polished off it is just amazing.

Squared did a great job with this game, it has good graphics and lots of complex interactions. Most games you are scripted through a series of actions in Chrono Trigger what you do with your characters changes how things turn out.

The neatest thing is the many endings. Being able to restart the game with your old characters increases the replay value.

First of all Chrono Trigger is, in my opinion, videogame perfection. It is worth every penny! (I won’t mention before the eBay days I was on a journey that lasted almost two years to find this game. I didn’t actually go on a journey, I was only 12 years old and too stupid to simply look in logical places for the game, like a used game store.) Anyway, this game introduced me to the RPG genre and for that I'm eternal grateful...
It is safe to say, Chrono Trigger changed my life.

As I read through the “bad” ratings; I noticed one common error, they were all complaints about the seller... Guess what? This is one of the very good role playing games with many hours of fun. The value at what I bought it for was a real bargin.

One of the best games for the super nintendo. Chrono Trigger is a turn based role playing game released by square soft in 1995. The graphics and music are some of the best for the super nintendo. The battle system is simple yet detailed enought to never become tedious. The story is enduring and well told. Overall this is one of the best video games ever made.

Arguably the last great Role Playing Game for the Super Nintendo, with the exception of Super Mario RPG. Chrono Trigger Is one of the first Games in which Square made the soundtrack a priority, and as such the game haunts the players long after they finish.
Many outcomes to the game lead to many hours of gameplay, and a battle system in which position of the enemy plays an active role make for a great experience.
The storyline is also a testament to its writers, as they took what is possibly one of the most cliched ideas in RPG's and turned it into a classic adventure.
Well worth the buy, and well worth the time.

Chrono Trigger is one of my Top 5 all time fav games. This game has a great amount of game play considering it is on SNES, the story line is very easy to follow and you will find youself getting sucked in. I have played the game multiple times and still go back for more. Plenty of sidequests and different armor, weapons, and combinations to use. Right amount of characters so it isn't confusing and each character you will receive a solid background about. Very different and enjoyable battle techniques using 2 players for a special double attack or all 3 for a triple attack. Travel through time to help save the world, make a few friends along the way and enjoy yourself. Please take the time to play this great game just to experience an RPG classic.

this is one of my favorite games of all time. it pained me to give it to my sister, but it was her birthday and she too is a huge fan. game works great, and having the manual and maps really takes me back. a great game =)

Chrono Trigger came out in the hay day of 16-bit RPG's and stood out because of it's original story, cool characters and special techs. This game had awesome music and characters created by that Dragonball Z guy. The SNES version has no load times unlike the PSone version, BUT the PSone has a few cinematic scenes which makes it a better but, slower version. New gamers may find this game a little dated, but fans of classic RPGs will no doubt LOVE this game.

This is the best RPG of its time... and in many people's opinion, The BEST RPG OF ALL TIMES! the game is made before nintendo 64 or playstation came out with the 3D graphics, so the graphic is not fantastic if you compare it to what we have now. During its time... it was amazing graphics, but that is not what made it best best RPG. The game has a fabulous story line where there is time traveling envolved. Things you do in the pass will effect your future. The fighting style/setup was one of the first of its kind where characters(who are unique and way cool) in the game can do combination attacks... and because of the fact that the game has time traveling involved, there can be numberous ending to the game... Chrono Trigger is simple enough for a kid to play and sophisticated enough for an adult to enjoy! over all, it is the best game you'll ever play on Super Nintendo!

There's not much I can say in this review that you haven't likely heard a million times before. I could sit here and shower you with just about every adjective I can think of to somehow convince you to get Chrono Trigger, but it comes down to one thing. Chrono Trigger is the greatest video game ever created and no gamer on the face of the planet Earth should be without this masterpeice in their game collection. End of story. So stop reading now and go buy this game. The price on this game might be a little high, but believe me, it would be a bargain at twice that price.

The game was purchased as a Christmas Gift and it doesn't work I would like my money back or a replacement for the game my son was very dissapointed

This is a Christmas gift, do not know if it works yet. My son will love it though. Shipping was a little slow, but everything else seems to be right on target. Like I said, need to see if it works.

1st shipping was horrible a bag from a comforter as the packing pretty funny but for a $160+ purchase not cool, the strategy guide was in ok condition for its age some pages just seemed to fall out, the game however was in excellent condition no problem playing at all I was really impressed with that so thats what made it all around a good deal.
