When a newly developed teleportation device malfunctions at the Millennial Fair, young Crono must travel through time to rescue his unfortunate companion from an intricate web of past and present perils. The swashbuckling adventure that ensues soon unveils an evil force set to destroy the world, triggering Crono's race against time to change the course of history and bring about a brighter future. Features an engaging and unparalleled storyline, leading to the discovery of multiple epic conclusions to a journey that transcends time. An inspiring musical score created by Yasunori Mitsuda. Intriguing battle system made possible by the unique combination of the Active Time Battle system and Tech skills. Famed character designer Akira Toriyama lends his signature art style to create the vibrant world that has captivated gamers around the world. Taking advantage of the Nintendo DS hardware, CHRONO TRIGGER makes its way onto the portable platform with all-new dual screen presentation and Touch-Screen functionality. A brand new dungeon and a Wireless Play mode adds exciting new dimensions to this timeless classic.
This game is one of the most highly praised and lauded role playing games from the Super Nintendo era and of all time. It is constantly among many top ten lists and yet it has never quite reached mainstream levels that "Final Fantasy" or "Kingdom Hearts" have reached. This could be due to the fact that only two games exist in the franchise and this is the second remake of the first. Somehow, "Chrono Trigger" has eluded even me for all these years but now is the perfect time to actually sit down and experience this one of a kind RPG for the first time.

This game is automatically classic.

With the artwork from Dragonball, a touch of roleplaying, and some wacky dialouge, this game is one of the first in must haves.

If you've played Secret of Mana, the character styling is almost the same, as well as active areas. However, the world map style is different, as well as fighting. It's more of a turn based kind-of game.

If you've played Secret of Mana, or Final Fantasy, you will need to have played this by now.

I wouldn't bother collecting the Snes version, it's highly overpriced because of it's rareity, and fairly cheap on Nintendo DS. Same game, less than half the price.

I bought this game because i had played the original on the SNES. It was one of the best RPGs made at the time but also one of the best of all time I think. I can't find anything wrong with this game. The story is amazing the soundtrack is superb and the characters are unique. I would only recommend this game to adventure/RPG lovers. Other than that very awesome game.

The Best of SNES now better and in your pocket!

Please take your time, read and vote if possible.
For those who know Chrono from SNES and the remake for PS1, this is a must have. Chrono Trigger DS has all the snes features and ps1 CG scenes plus new dungeons (at least 5), new bosses, and new items.
There's also a new(and better) translation made to fit the real script of the game.

Now for those who don't know Chrono Trigger:
It's free movement, that means you can move freely on the dungeom maps, in all eight directions, also the battles don't have square movements either.
This is a turn based RPG, you can choose wait/active turns. 'Wait' let you imput your commands(attacks, itens, spells) and you won't be attacked, while in 'active' monsters will attack you while you are choosing what to do
In the dungeons there's not really random battles, once you can see where the enemies are, and may choose to battle them or not. They will always be at the same spot.
To enter a battle you just need to touch the enemy or reach a pre-determined space, also the scenario don't change when you enter a battle, you fight in the exact place you are.
The way the enemies are arranged will change the effect of your techs(skills).
There are several tech, normal, magical, double and triple tech(as the name says it includes two or three of your chars).
It has nice visual effects, and a great soundtrack, also the plot and the background of each character is really well made.
Also the character art was made by Akira Toriyama, same as in dragon quest and the dragon ball series.

In Chrono Trigger you are Crono, living near Leene Square at year 1000AD.
After metting Marle a misterious wandering girl, and Lucca your old friend you kind of go through some troubles and find yourself near... uh... Leene square...uh... at 600AD!
Well this is just the beggining of your timetraveling/people finding adventures.
Have Fun.

  Chrono Trigger a true classic.
Review created: 10/23/09

This game is one of the most amazing RPG's that squaresoft has released. It has endless replay value and tons of hidden features that will keep you hooked.

Plot wise it is so in depth there are a number of characters with intertwining stories. You travel to many eras of time to accomplish missions to prevent a great evil. The equipment system, combat system, items and graphics used in this game are truly ingenious. The music is also award winning. The amount of heart put into the tracks is amazing. I find myself listening to an MIDI track over traditional music at times due to the melodies and rhythm. I can't describe how awe inspiring it is to play the game and have music of the caliber.

I find myself playing through this over and over again which is why I had to get it for my DS so I would be able to carry it with me as I traveled. It is definitely a true classic in the RPG realm of the 90's. I highly recommend this to anybody who appreciates any title that square has released in the past or present. It is good for children and adults alike and teaches positive morals and is very funny. Most definitely one of the greatest games ever released.

The Legendary Game Arrives on the DS
Review created: 09/03/09
by:

If your going to play a video game then look no further. If your a fan of rpg's then this is the perfect game for you. For those of you that dont know this game was originally released in 1995 on the Super Nintendo. Ever since its release, it has been hailed as one of the greatest games ever made. The most interesting aspect of this game is the fact that you are able to time travel.

Gameplay-
The gameplay is very interactive, you can talk to people, explore dungeons, fight monsters, and of course, time travel. The combat system is fun and easy to use. You can have up to three characters in your fighting party at once and each character has a time bar and when it fills up you have the choice of attacking, using special techniques, or using an item. The aspect that seperates this combat from most games is the fact that you can combine the powers of your teamates to execute devestating attacks.

Story-
The story is very involving and it will have you hooked from start to finish.
You will always want to know what happens next. Since the game involves time travel, the actions and choices you make in past eras effect the outcome of the future. The game is very intelligent in this way and there are minimal time inconsistencies. The characters are very likable and they all have their distinct personalities and accents. The game also has a sense of humor that will have you giggling in some parts.

Graphics-
For the time, the graphics were great, but of course by today's standards they are dated. However, the gameplay and story are enough to draw you in without the eye candy and that's a sign of a great game.

Audio-The sound effects are also dated, but it does not take away from the game. On the other hand, the music is fantasic for a game and adds great atmosphere to it.

Replay Value-
The game has a total of thirteen endings, all of which are sad, happy, and humorous in there own right. The DS version of the game includes two new dungeons which will keep you occupied for awhile. After you complete the game you are able to choose New Game + which will alow you speed through the game with all the items and weapons you attained in your first playthrough.

Overall-
This game has aged very well and today is still regarded as one of the greatest games ever made. As you are your playing you will realize the heart and soul the game makers put into this product. The only bad thing about this game is that it is short in length and it will not take you a long time to complete. Overall though, a great game that still holds it's own in the world today after being released almost fifteen years ago.

Chrono Trigger (Nintendo DS) Nostalgic greatness
Review created: 03/23/09

I absolutely loved this game when it came out for the SNES, and I missed out when it came out on the playstation. So when they released it for the DS, I had to get it. It has a great nostalgic feel to it, along with a few new play controls involving the touch screen. Over all it's basically the same great game, just portable. If you like RPG's, or loved it for the SNES or PS1, then I strongly suggest getting this game. A+

Past, Present or Future, this game will forever live on
Review created: 03/16/09(updated 03/16/09)
0 of 2 people found this review helpful.

14 years ago, a child had never played an RPG, had heard of others who had played such games. The Mana series, the FF series..The child could not play these gems because the child's family could not afford such, but had longed for the day. After waiting, the child heard of a game called "Chrono Trigger" made by the notorious Squaresoft. At that point, the child asked his parents for the title for christmas, to which the parents agreed. Yay! Now all he had to do was wait to finally play a such RPG that others had played, HOWEVER little did he know what was in store to come!

On the first December after this RPG's release, the child's anxiety level would increase ever so slightly with each passing moment. However, the fates did not show favor to the child, as on the very day that the child was to receive the game, the child fell ill..with a mildly hot fever. HOWEVER!

Though the child was ill, when he finally awoke that afternoon, he was bedazzled to find the game sitting atop his sheets, all the while the child feeling completely unworthy of it's pwnership.

And that was what began a 3 year long obsession I had with this game. Many things, if not all things, have already been said over the past 14 years. Now, this game bears it's third american format, thus now a beautifully portable format at that. However, I do not like redundant comments that are more generic than most of todays games. This game is a legend. I do not care what's been added, taken away, changed, spiced up, or any other way to specify change.

Many games have history in this world. This was a game that not only made history, but continues to changes its own future as well as those who are blessed with playing this Role-Playing Giant.

Love the DS version, or hate it, I don't care, but this game will never die.

  Chrono Trigger Review
Review created: 02/10/09

acabrino ( 7 )

This game can pass almost with no review as for today. It's a masterpiece from Square and the port to Nintendo DS is right on time.
Originally released for SNES, and with all the problems that came to your game saves vanishing without warning, and was a fantastic game. The story is about a group of people that, after a problem with an experiment (a teletransport), find themselves changing time and space and discovering that their world ended in the future due to some creature attack and decide that they'll save their world, no matter what.
The plot may be a little too much cliché, but it is very good written and the game is very addictive. It is one of the first games to offer the possibility to start the game with all of your items, levels and abilities. Since it is somewhat short, this is something that increases it's replay factor. Besides, it's the only way to see all of it's ending scenes, 17 on DS version, depending on which chapter to choose to fight the ending boss, which is acessible during this new game+ feature.
Later on the game was released for PS1 and included anime sequences, also included in the DS version, but no other changes.
This latest version includes the anime sequences, by Akira Toriyama, hence the similarity to Dragon Ball Z, and two new features, new dungeons and the possibility to raise creatures you can use to fight other creatures and your friends creatures, increasing even more the game replay factor.
If you own a DS and played this game before, do yourself a favor and buy and play it again, as it is one of the best RPGs ever created, if you've never played it before, buy it now and play, you won't be disappointed.

CT for DS RPG Fantasy at its finest
Review created: 02/09/09
by:

By far one of the best and most well liked games for SNES has been re-released for DS. Without question, it is one of the funniest games to play on DS as well. The only games that rivals this one, are FF 3 & 4 and Phantom Hourglass. So if you remotely enjoyed those games, this is one is a MUST!
FF 3 & 4 have similar battle systems like CT, but CT has no random encounters you can actually see the monsters and avoid them if necessary. However, it doesn't use the stylus like you would in Phantom hourglass. Graphics are a bit dated but you quickly won't mind because the game play is on another level. Story is great, ending is great and my favorite part is restarting a new game with retained experience otherwise marked with stars. (You will understand when you play(. Playing the game a second time around is a breeze! Recommendation? BUY IT and then pass it on to your children.. its that good!

Chrono Trigger is one of the best games ever made. This port to the DS not only encapsulates the entire original game, but has some fun additions. Anyone who has ever played the original and liked it is guaranteed to enjoy this port. Anyone who hasn't played this game, even if they generally aren't too hyped about the RPG genre, should consider giving this game a try.

Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy, and many more used to be plugged into the system for hours of enjoyment. Don't pass up this classic Super Nintendo game that has been realized on the new Nintendo DS.

A great port to one of the greatest RPGs ever with some new video additions. I played the game all the time years ago for the SNES so once I found out the DS came out with their remake I was glued to the game since I got it.

It's basically the same in all ways, but the bottom DS screen is integrated as a map and quick option touchscreen.

The greatest RPG of all time on the greatest handheld.
Review created: 12/20/08

Everything that makes Chrono Trigger the best sprite-based RPG ever created--is intact in this game. They've somehow managed to make it even better. Dual screens work exceptionally well for menu, though it does take a bit of getting used to it. They've added a Music Box, Bestiary, Items list and a few other bonuses which help the adventurer keep track of how much of the game has been revealed.

The ability to raise a monster from scratch at the Arena is just icing on the cake. You can train your monster as you progress through the game, and the methods for training are quite varied. The ability to battle your monster against both NPC opponents & against friends via Wi-Fi is a huge plus. This battle mode reminded me slightly of the Colosseum from Final Fantasy 6--only you don't have quite as much control over the actions of your monster.

The addition of cut-scene movies & the bonus Arena mode; as well as the classic storyline, ease of acclamation (some rpg's are NOTORIOUSLY difficult to get used to/pick up at any point in the game), and the indispensable "+Game" mode--all combine to make this experience a must-own part of any DS owner's library...let alone any RPG fan's library.

After years of waiting for this game to be released for GBA--Square did one better and updated it for the DS. Well Done! Buy it, you will NOT be disappointed, I promise you!

  A Legendary Tale Revisited.
Review created: 12/19/08

I'm not going to go into the specifics or the legacy of the game. If you have to ask, then you've lived under a rock for far too long.
Suffice to say, Chrono Trigger is among just about every gamer's desert island top five. The story has depth rivaled only by the very best of the Final Fantasy series, spanning all of time, yet focused on one pivotal event. This port to the DS, a faithful remake of the SNES original, with a few PSX version extras thrown in, is considered the definitive version. The look and feel of the game is the same, but the dialogue has been polished and the battle mechanics tweaked. A few extras have been added in to lure the veteran gamers, but they really aren't necessary. Chrono Trigger DS is a must-have for any RPG fan. And if you never got into RPGs, then this is one to try.
