A comprehensive review of the Blu-ray value pack.

The Chronicles of Riddick:Pitch Black & The Chronicles of Riddick Value Pack is basically just the inclusion of both movies in one package. There is no special case, as both films are just banded together in the packaging. This package is great for a person who has never purchased either of these Blu-ray movies before because you get two great movies for one low price. First, my review of The Chronicles of Riddick: Pitch Black.
Pitch Black is arguably one of the most interesting premise to come to Science Fiction movies in some time. Although the setting of the film could seem routine to a casual viewer(space travelers stranded and bickering on a hostile planet infested with alien nasties), director David Twohy's wonderful use of color and stylistic flourishes more than makes up for any trivial complaints.
For those of you curious about the film's plot, it deals with a group of marooned space "passengers" who spend the majority of their time searching for a way to evacuate a harsh desert planet. Their efforts are unexpectedly forced to quicken however when they discover a particularly vicious type of nocturnal alien ready to emerge to the planet's surface during an eclipse.
Viewers can't help but like the film's villainous hero(played by Vin Diesel) who brings to memory Arnold Schwarzenegger's famous role as the Terminator.
The film looks and sounds great and has more than a few moments of nail-biting tension thrown in for good measure. For Science Fiction fans this is a must-see. And as for the rest of you, try giving this fine movie a chance.
In regards to The Chronicles of Riddick, I am a discriminating Sci-Fi fan, both in literature and film. I definitely did not agree with what professional critics had to say about this movie. I'm glad I didn't pay attention to the reviews and watched it for myself.
Chronicles Of Riddick takes place after Riddick's escape from the planet of monsters on Pitch Black, starting out with his recapture after being in hiding for many years. Now we are going to get a glimpse of just what is going on in the universe during the futuristic time frame of `Pitch Black'. A large sect of religious fanatics called Necromongers are moving from planet to planet, converting others to their faith and killing those who will not convert. Necromongers are half-dead beings from many different original planets, kind of like Star Trek's Borgs except they do not loose their individuality when they are converted.
With a combination of elaborate sets, CGI special effects, dark cinematography and good costuming, "The Chronicles of Riddick" is visually very entertaining. The plot is interesting and the dialog is fair; but the editing could have used some work but it is adequate. The Chronicles of Riddick is a good old-fashioned science fiction ride across the universe in the tradition of Conan (especially the ending).
Overall, these films are very entertaining and interesting and you will receive many hours of fun in watching them. I rate this value pack 5 out of 5 stars...
