To see a much loved childhood story brought to life!!!
Review created: 04/07/06

Being 49 years old, and experiencing the thrill of seeing one of your favorite childhood stories (and I have no reservations about admitting that I have reread these stories several times in my adult years) brought to life with such skill and devotion is almost impossible to describe. I took my 12 year old granddaughter to the theatre and we embarked on the adventure of a lifetime. The only other movie experience I can compare this to is the making of the LOTR trilogy. To sit spellbound and watch a story unfold in pictures in this way is nothing short of miraculous. To finally put faces to well-loved characters and have the visual aids to finally SEE the story and not just read it, really Rocks! The movie cast and crew stayed true to the storyline and feelings invoked by the novel, adding amazing color and life to a classic story. So many books have been made into movies, with changes to the storylines and other disappointments, but you definitely will not be disappointed by this seamless effort. Make sure you see it right away and buy it so that you can see it again and again.

The Chronicles of Narnia -- a disappointment
Review created: 02/26/07

This movie is too long. There are poor effects and incredibly poor casting. I read from other reviews that "The Chronicles of Narnia joins the ranks of other fantasy classics like The Wizard of Oz and The Lord of the Rings”. But I think that’s a very overstatement. For a movie that is supposed to take place in a world that is nothing but overwhelmed with strange creatures, there were only a handful of total characters & creatures in the entire film.

If you've read the books...you won't be disappointed. If you haven't read the books...you still get a great movie that's not hard to follow. A bit lengthy but great action and decent child acting.

Chronicles of Narnia is Finger Licking Good - 5/5
Review created: 03/27/06

I wasn't sure what to expect with the Chronicles of Narnia when it first came out...would it be too childish? How would it conflict with my childhood memories? Would it be too religious? What would the graphics look like?

Well... its was terrific. The graphics and cinematography were tremendously done. The story ran smoothly without any stalling - great considering the movie's length. My only complaint in the entire movie is little daughter's acting... which is atrocious. Other than that, Disney really got the Chronicles of Narnia right as its the perfect mix between childish and too adult / mature and the visuals are astounding. Really an excellent journey!

Chronicles of Narnia DVD Cast:
Anna Popplewell, Dawn French, Georgie Henley, James Cosmo, James McAvoy, Jim Broadbent, Ray Winstone, Rupert Everett, Skandar Keynes, Tilda Swinton, William Moseley

Great movie for all ages. Well directed and cinematics!

This movie is a great movie for all ages. It has a little for everyone. The scenes capture great illustration similar to the scenes from LOTR. The movie is perfect length as well, not too long or short. The Story is a little different from the book, and this DVD has many extras that make it a DVD must have. I like the extra footage, and the behind the scene play. The young actors in the movie do a superb job of acting and make the adventures in the movie look well thought out and realistic.

I would highly recommend this DVD for anyone who has children, because it builds imagination and creativity for children of all ages, something more and more children lack today. For adults this movie is not a waste of time, and makes you think of what would you do if you were in their situation as well as brings you back to your own childhood memories of exploring the unknown.

A great movie to watch with your kids.

The Chronicles of Narnia: A Must For All Ages
Review created: 04/08/06

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe is actually the second book in the series. They made this movie because the first book really didn't have the action it needed to be a movie I guess. And to make money they needed a good movie and this was it. Narnia was a good tale of fantasy. It had it all from mythical creatures to Santa himself. The fight scenes weren't "Lord of the Rings" graphic because after all it is a kids movie. But like i said The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe was a great movie and I'm looking forward to the next movie, if they make it.

A Great Story, and a very great birthday present!
Review created: 04/13/06

My son and three grandchildren saw this movie in the theater, and they liked it so much, they bought it for me for my birthday! I read the books as a child, as an adult (reading it to my son), and as a grandmother reading it to the three moviegoers...I liked the way the movie followed the book. Usually, if I read the book, and see the movie, I much prefer the images I invent from the book...this time I think the movie was better!

We have a four-generation household, and all the children, from age 11 to age 90, ate lots of popcorn and enjoyed this movie...together.

The children enjoyed the movie at the theatre and we could not wait for it to be released on DVD! The effects were absolutely fabulous and the young children's eyes watching the movie were just stuck to the screen! You know everyone loves to play Hide -n- Seek! Get this DVD while you can and watch it with the entire family! A great movie by Walt Disney and Walden Media!

Childhood Classic Makes For Fascinating Movie
Review created: 09/28/06

The Lion, The Witch, and the Wordrobe was just as fantastic and dream-like as the book! This is a great movie for the family, although it is a little on the long side. Fantasy and mythical creatures fill this movie and create a thrilling story that the children will love. Check out this movie if you have young children or if you read and loved The Chronicles of Narnia series!

  Beautiful Movie!

Simply stated, this was a beautiful movie. The characters are so real, and the story is fantastic. Everything about it is enchanting. You might need the kleenex, though, as the last half of the movie is very sad! Your children, even your older children, are sure to love this movie!

  The Perfect Family Movie!

The movie is a clean, faithful adaption of the brilliant books from the Mr. Lewis.

The acting is superb, the musical score is awesome, and of course, the story is unparalled.

I think reading the books before seeing the show make the movie all the more meaningful, but the movie stands alone very well too.

Recommended! 3 Thumbs Up (if possible)

  Masterful retelling

This is a great retelling of Lewis' story. It is extremely difficult to translate literature to the screen, but I believe that Walden and Disney have done a masterful job of it in this movie.

  I loved this movie!

This movie was actually one that I was skeptical about watching. After hearing from so many people how good it was, I decided to view it for myself. I was NOT disappointed but actually pleasantly surprised. I am not one that enjoys fastasy-types of movies, but this one was absolutely addicting! I couldn't help but love it! It was full of adventure, fun, love, and great morals. The characters were unbelievable and customes even better! I really felt like I was in Narnia with the rest of them. In my opinion, that is a mark of any good movie.

This is by far one of the few movies that I have EVER sat through and didn't look at my watch once! I haven't read any of the books, but I am very familiar with the author. I have heard that the movie is very close to the book, with very little artistic license being taken. The movie is truly one to be appreciated, awakening your imagination and providing a story line to be loved by most. I can't wait for the next in the series!

I have never read C.S. Lewis book but was really looking forward in seeing this movie. The whole family loved it!!! It has a great array of characters that goes beyond imagination. It is a long movie but after it ends you leave feeling that you want to see more. Especially of the colorful mystical characters that are yet to come in the next film. And I'm quite sure anticipation is indeed high for the sequel.

  A very good movie

A great way to entertain yourself. Just pop "The Lion, the Witch & The Wardrobe" into your DVD player and you're set if rain forces you to stay inside. The movie is very good with image effects, but does deviate from the book at several times. For one thing, while the book says that the kids were evacuees from London during World War II, the Blitz was added on especially for the movie. The book was probably set in late-1939, which saw the biggest-ever of all the evacuations of women and children from London and other big cities in Britain. By the time the blitz was underway, evacuation was down to a trickle as most Britons were determined to tough it out together. Another area where the movie deviated from the book was that the kids hid in the closet, not because they broke a window playing ball, but to hide from the lady of the house as she was showing guests around. In this version of Narnia, Peter and Susan are portrayed as a little more immature than in the book, often given to making sarcastic comments to each other, which is typical of teenagers. They look more like 21st Century teenagers appearing in a movie that just happened to be set in 1939 or 1940.
This edition of Narnia is far more dramatic and emotionally charged than a BBC version which was released at the end of the 1980s. This version feels like a movie, not just a videotaped stage play and brings all the movie and film technology of the 21st Century to an old story.
