The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis (2005, Unabridged, Compact Disc)

Narnia tales are classics all children should read or have read to them. Not everyone will like reading such long novels aloud. And not all of us have time. My two children, 8 & 11, ate these CD's up! They listen to them at bedtime, often falling asleep and having to finish another time. My 11 year old, who had already read most of the series on her own, listened to each CD and is now on her way through her favorites again. My 8 year old is still plugging excitedly away. The moral values, the lessons taught are timeless. The characters come alive with the professional actor's voices. The best money I've ever spent on children's entertainment.

If you want an unabridged reading of the Chronicles of Narnia, then this is not for you...

However, if you want the story to come to life in your mind, you will want this set. Very close to the text concerning action and most of the dialog, this dramatic telling will whisk you into the magical world time and again. This excellent production is sure to delight you more each time you hear it. You may find that you are a true friend of Narnia.

"He's not a tame lion..."

This is no typical audio book series. This is a radio theater style production, only without any of the hokiness of typical radio theater. What carries the production is the excellent voicings of each of the characters, led by the superior narration of Paul Scofield. These are accentuated by movie quality sound effects, including a rather frightening lion's roar.

If you have read the book series, the CD's are astoundingly faithful to the books. The only places they are changed in the slightest is the conversion of some narrated elements into dialogue. Even there, however, the created conversations use many of the words of C.S. Lewis.

We bought the series for our 6 year old and our 3 year old to listen to on trips. We found two unexpected results very quickly: 1. We now listen to the series not only on long trips but on trips to the grocery store or church; 2. My wife and I are just as addicted to the stories.

This is a top-shelf production, with a great script, great characterizations, wonderful acting, and all of the joy and excitement and heart-rending truth that Lewis intended his readers to experience. It is well worth the price of purchase, as you will listen to it repeatedly.

The production quality of this set is much better than I thought it would be. Though it is produced by Focus on the Family, a hateful Christian propaganda group, there aren't any "inspirational messages" to ruin the fun of the stories. The books are all performed by a professional British acting troupe, with great music and sound effects, and the stories are all unabridged.

This is a grand and wonderful group of audio plays . The sound effects and acting bring to life these stories of magic and fantastic worlds of Narnia. Wether you are six or sixty you are guarenteed to love these wonderful CD,S

It began with the reading of The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe on a family trip a few years ago. Now everything Narnia is a must! The kids have loved the books, the BBC videos, the Focus on the Family audio dramas (their favorite!), and the 2005 Disney movie of the first book. Great themes! Great Stories! Timeless adventures! This is a series not to be missed!

The only thing that might beat this audiobook experience by Radio Theatre would be reading the actual Chronicles of Narnia yourself. This presentation totally immerses oneself in the colorful world of Narnia. The clarity of the production as well as the variety of soundscapes is satisfying. And the orchestral score is quality. What tops the whole thing off though are the talented voice actors that bring alive the characters of the book. They are absolutely great. Many performers took part because each character is voiced by someone different So while listening, no two characters sound alike. In addition, the performers who voice each character persist through all seven books so eventually, you can tell who's speaking without the narrator saying who it is. The whole production lasts around 23 hours so plane rides and car trips are covered. Overall, this is a great audiobook that is well worth owning because of the timeless entertainment it will bring. Narnia is a cornerstone in fantastical literature and a must have for anyone who enjoys adventure and excitement. Upon hearing this audiobook I would believe that any of the other Radio Theatre productions are excellent as well. If you are looking for the best Chronicles of Narnia audiobook, this one is the best.

GREAT ... GREAT !! We (my kids and I) L O V E it !!

The Horse and His Boy is the funniest SO FAR !! The BEST part is toward the end when the evil prince gets turned into a DONKEY (only temporarily) by Aslan !! My kids and I HOWLED all the way through this part !!

I was not disappointed to receive this! This is awesome! I was really looking to something to enhance our family time and this is a great way to sit back and listen to a story much like our grandparents did as kids! LOVE IT!

This brings the book to life! Very well done. Hours and hours of enjoyment. We bought this set for our 16 year daughter, who has grown up on "Adventures in Odyssey". This is another wonderful way to experience the classic! She read the book twice, seen the movie twice, and now is listening to this, which she loves!

These classic stories, by C.S. Lewis, transport the reader to another place and time. There's magic, family realtionships/dymanics, dwarfs, giants and absolutely wonderful characters. You will laugh, cheer, worry and rejoice with the four heroes and their adventures. It's great to read with your elementary shool-aged children, but it's just as enjoyable to read for the first time as an adult. Hidden within is a message of hope, of never-giving up - to reaching beyond your limits to believing in that which you cannot see.

This is a wonderful series for young readers. Through this series we follow the formation, developement and fate of Narnia through the ages. The series is a wonderful series that engages children to dream, fantasize and understand the role people have in history. A fun series to read to read as a family as well. There is so much rich distriptions that spark imagination kids. Kids will also enjoy following the series children heroes as they go and return to Narnia. wonderful series of books for both children and adults!

Love the whole series. It's nice to be able to listen to the audio while driving. The sounds and special effects are really good.

These dramatic audio stories are outstanding. Our kids love them and listen to them time and time again. These are also true to the books as written by C.S. Lewis. The movies have changed several aspects of the characters -- for the worse we believe. Stick with the books and the audio stories.

I love these books and this recording is both professional and enjoyable. I just bought it for a 13 year old who constantly comes over asking to listen to mine.

What a wonderfull group of stories. I am in my 60's and had a great time listing to the CD's while driving on vacation and around town. Eexcellent listen.

This was an awesome collection. The story was so vibrant the characters seemed to come alive. I think i loved the stories even more then my kids. Would definitely recommend for everyone 7yrs. and up.

I bought this so we could all listen to the stories together and use our imaginations to picture the story. It's a great rendition with the different characters speaking and sound effects galore!! It sounds just like the movie characters!! Truly awesome!! It captures my 6 yr old and 10 yr old's attention! We love it!! Great for travel too!

Chronicles of Narnia compact disc set seems to be in good condition. It was not packaged well and the cases are bent out of shape, but the CDs appear to be fine.
