A "must have" for any CD collection:

I generally try for Greatest Hits or Best Of CD's when building my collection. Any fan of Creedence Clearwater Revival would love this CD as it is filled with hit after hit. CHRONICLE Volume 1 covers 20 of CCR's biggest hits including my favorites, "Fortunate Son" & "Who'll Stop The Rain". They're all here except for "Born On The Bayou", "The Midnight Special" & "Before You Accuse Me" where you would have to get CHRONICLE Vol.2 to really make this collection complete. John Fogerty wrote 17 of the songs on this CD and I feel that he deserves more recognition than he has received throughout his career. Creedence was mainly a singles band,so,instead of running out and getting several CD's/offerings - I strongly recommend getting CHRONICLE Vol.1 as it's one of the best "Greatest Hits" CD's out there.

Call it what you like, rockabilly with country and rhythm & blues influences but it's still rock & roll to me!!!

Paul Compton aka "Pacman35"

  CCR at it's finest

For foot tappin' and air guitarin' good time. This CCR album bring back the memories of a more innocent time when we were trying to make a difference in the world. These war protest songs are still fresh and new even today. Fortunate Son gives a look at the double standard that was present during those times. Senator's kids were exempt from the draft and everyone else was expected to participate. Thankfully those times have changed, but the music still keeps us rockin'

  Best 70s Southern Rock

Awesome compilation. CCR at its best. Creedence Clearwater Revival was probably the greatest American singles band, one of the hardest-working American groups of any genre, and almost the only exponent of working-class sensibility in American rock & roll -- particularly California rock & roll -- after the advent of Haight-Ashbury and before the rise of punk.

Led by guitarist/vocalist/writer John Fogerty, the group simply pumped out classic rock singles, one after another, in much the same rockabilly spirit as Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis, adding some touches of New Orleans R&B and other relatively antediluvian sources. On its first album (Creedence Clearwater Revival), the band attempted to stretch out, as was then the fashion, but though the approach garnered a hit with "Suzie Q," an extended version of the Dale Hawkins classic, Creedence didn't really hit stride until Fogerty tightened up some three-minute songs. Then began the flood: "Bad Moon Rising," "Born on the Bayou," "Commotion," Down on the Corner," "Green River," "Have You Ever Seen the Rain," "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" (an extended song that worked), "Proud Mary," "Travelin' Band" and "Who'll Stop the Rain." All of this occurred between 1968 and 1973, when the group fell apart.
Perhaps best of all were "Lodi," the story of a working rocker's depression at being stuck in another out-of-the-way gin mill and his determination to beat everyone, and "Fortunate Son," a stab at the privileged that only kids from the wrong side of the ultra-hip San Francisco area could have felt so sharply. (Creedence arose from roughly the same town as the psychedelic bands, but came from much poorer families.) And after a time, Fogerty burned to prove that he was as much an artist as anyone in the Grateful Dead -- he apparently did not know that he was already more -- and the group tried to stretch out, to make nominally "progressive" music. Not all of this was unsuccessful, by any means -- "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" is more intense than any six minutes of Grateful Dead music on record -- but still, his metier was the single. Eventually, the group tried to achieve a communal balance, the other members of the quartet contributing songs to the final studio record, Mardi Gras, a noble but disappointing affair. Since then, it's all been repackages, except for the lamentable Live in Europe.

If you like southern rock, you love this CCR completion album. I sat down and listened to the entire thing in one sitting. Absolutely great job in selecting the songs and numbering the tracks perfectly. CCR is famous for having a great beat with the echoeing lyrics. This sets a good example of this. This album is a must have for any southern rock fan.

~ It simply doesn't get any better! If CCR isn't in your music library, you don't have one. Make sure you pick up Volume Two also, as their album cuts were just as good. The best from one of the all-time best. ~

Being of the age of the late sixties and early seventies and the Viet Nam experience, CCR was my beer drinking, cruising music. This CD takes me back to the days of eight track tapes and my 67 Camaro SS. Makes me feel twenty years old again!

We were looking for a greatest hits type of CD. This has just about every song we wanted. The fact that the e-bay listing showed a list of songs was the deciding factor.

  Creedence Clearwater Revival CD
Review created: 03/30/09

The CD is great music dating back to my high school days.

This Group was my favorite and I always have enjoyed John Fogerty.

This particular CD has the best selection of songs compared to other C.C.R. cd's.

DE LO MEJOR EN LA HISTORIA DEL ROCK
Review created: 02/04/09
by:

I still have a very good cassette player and have lost a lot of my 60's music in a fire so I am getting cassettes and making copies on CD. Cheaper than buying the CD if you can find them.
