Christopher Lowell's You Can Do It! Small Spaces by Christopher Lowell (2003, Hardcover)

This book does a great job setting forth a step-by-step guide for how to use space in two small new homes, one traditional and one more contemporary (in truth, the homes didn't look that different to me). The author takes you through what the room looked like when starting and then shows you how it was put together step by step, with photos showing the process as it takes place. Although the final rooms contain much more in them than I would want in such small spaces, I got some great ideas and, because the books follow a step-by-step guide, it's easy to see where you could decide to do something differently to obtain a somewhat different result. This book offered ideas I can and will use. Some of the ideas I can implement with what I already have,
and some of the ideas are great ones to keep in mind as I shop for furniture to redesign my living room.

The one clear limitation on this book is it focuses only on the two houses that are being redone, so you're not going to see picture after picture of ideas from many different houses. I didn't find that disappointing, though, because the book was so good at what it did do.

Always loved watching Christopher but my stations no longer carry his programs. He takes ideas and makes them real! The cost is amazing less by far than if you bought it new...if you can find what you are looking for. All his books are good. And easy to read!

What can you say Christopher Lowell is great he gave me a lot of great ideas for a couple of spaces in my home that are smaller rooms and was not quit sure what to do with and a great idea for a princess like set up for a bedroom that is easy and i know will look great in my daughters small room lots of great storage options as well that makes everbodys life easier big or small spaces great book a+++++

I was a faithful watcher of Christopher's TV shows and really miss them. I have all his books, and this one follows his tried and true method of using 7 layers of design, step by step instructions, and great illustrations. I have a very small house that felt cramped and cluttered. With Christopeher's help, the house is now much more pleasing to look at, functional for my needs, and takes advantage of spaces I hadn't thought of using before. This book, for me, was money well spent.

This book is a fun and informative read for anyone interested in interior design/decoration. Like his TV show Lowell shows the before and after...but what he does best is to show you how to take YOUR room from the before to a very stylish and beautiful after He reviews his seven layers of design which are designed to show you how to achieve professional looking design results. He gives such clear instructions on how to build a number of his design element that a novice could build a daybed, bench/room divider, or install ornate wall molding.

Excellent book gives you great ideas to maximize small spaces. Step by step instructions. Also tells you where you can obtain products you need to get the same look.

If youre a fan of the decorating Guru, you will love this book. It has some great ideas, but not Wow factor. Frankly, I got really tired of his face being on every page like that. Lowell could have better used that space for better views of his ideas. Im still trying to find a way to use any of the ideas. all in all, If a scale of 10 was used, I would rate this 6.

Loved the pictures and love his style. When I downsize, I will probably try a few of these projects.

I love the idea of featuring room by room ideas and illustrations! Christopher Lowell expresses his ideas in dramatic ways, and certainly makes me feel like I "can do it!"
