A Christmas Carol (DVD, 2007, Collector's Edition; 2 Disc Set)

I like the ease of purchasing the old time movies without going on an all day search in my car visiting many stores.

This particular purchase offered two disks in one pack, color and the original black and white, so there is something for everyone in color preference for the price on one disk.

Alastair Sim played the role of Scrooge very well and anyone who likes the Christmas Carol will love this version of the story.

I have always enjoyed A Christmas Carol (Scrooge) with Alastair Sim. This double DVD has it in classic B&W, with two views of it in B&W, a smaller screen and a larger screen version (both full screen, but in one the characters, etc are bigger) and the colorized version, well done for a colorized version (I am a B&W purist, and generally don't like them colorized.)

I looked for years for this to be sold in stores and did not see it for years and then did at Walmart one day (only) when I was in a hurry. I did not get it and they were all gone when I got back. The other Wal-Marts were sold out too. So, finding this on eBay was great, as I needed my Christmas Carol fix. This is a great movie, not just for Christmas time, but all year, to keep one in a Christmas spirt, which as the movie say, is not just one day a year but the whole year.

Also in this double DVD is the 1935 version with Seymour Hicks (B&W), which I never saw on TV or anywhere. So this was a real treat. It is an one hour movie, as many back then were and gives another view of the classic story. This movie was well done, for its day.

My Whole Family loves this movie. I grew up watching it every year. It isn't Christmas unless you watch this Version. I know every scene & line in this movie & never get tired of it. I first saw it when I was about 4 years old & I'm still watching it at 55. Alister Sim is great as Scrooge, no one else comes close. Why would I buy it when I can see it every year on tv? Because the Colorized version shows you so much more than the black & white version. Check out Scrooge's Coat in his office in the beginning of the movie, it's ripped & tattered as compared to the ending when he's wearing nicer clothing, you don't see that in the Black & white version. Also it's great to watch it in Surround sound. P.S. look for a blooper at the end of the movie when he wakes up in the morning & talks to himself in the mirror. You'll see a stage hand in the background in the mirror twice. I told you I know this movie inside & out.

A Christmas Carol Classic movie but this copy has a sub-title in red going arcoss screen.Don't know way it has the sub-title nothing listed about the sub-titles and no way of turning it off.Distracking having red lettering against a black & white movie.

This movie is an all-time classic. In my opinion, the best of any Scrooge movie ever made. In this DVD version, there are both the black and white, and also colorized versions. Both are excellent, very clear and sharp with great sound. However, the colorized version is spectacular and a MUST for anyone who loves this timeless tale and has never viewed it in color. If you love Alistair Sim as Scrooge, you won't be disappointed with this DVD in your collection.

I purchased this DVD for my husband; he is such a fan of Alistar Sim in this role. He already had an original black and white version and was somewhat disappointed at the duplication. However, upon viewing it, he was delighted. The colorization is very good and the extra features are outstanding. You won't be disappointed.

allister sim is the unequaled scrooge. best of all the films produced. absolutely delightful. the fact that this film in in b&w should not deter your viewing. it adds a perfect backdrop for the film. it delights in showing redeption of the human spirit, honor, bravery, unselfiness and love. it is a part of our family tradition to watch this film with family around the television.

There are two versions of this movie that are the favorites of mine; this one and the one starring Reginald Owens. They are both a good comparison of two wonderful interpretations of Charles Dicken's classic. I recommend this movie to anyone, as it is a must see.

The story has been done several times over the decades but this version with Mr. Sims is by far the best. The English/British have a greater attachment and emotional connection to this book/story than anyone else and this interpretation is classic British fare. The recreation of England/London in the 19th century is right/spot on! These period/costume dramas are original English staples. Much more so than any American version. Mr. Sims is magnificent! The entire cast is brilliant! And the production is superior to any other version.

I wanted to buy DVDs of all my mom's favorite movies that she had on VHS. THis was perfect because it was the same movie, with modern media, and very affordable as well.

Most mysterious version of Scrooge or A Christmas Carol story ever produced. Timeless and able to immerse the viewer in the fantasy of the story so that they forget reality for a little while. You can't ask more from a movie. I give it 4 stars at least. EXCELLENT MOVIE !!!!! One of the best films ever made ! A masterpiece !

As far as the DVD is concerned, this Alastair Sim 2-Disc version of "Scrooge" (or "Christmas Carol") is the only true and vibrant one ever produced.

I have seen every version to date and nothing, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, compares with the dramatic impact of this production.

This is my favorite Christmas Story
or as it is titled a Ghost Story for Christmas.
The moral of the story giving to others to give yourself joy
is timeless. Alistair is very scarey and perfect in the part.
If you have only one Christmas movie to watch, this one from the 30s,
would be the best the modern ones fall flat with PC claptrap.

The movie is a classic, so what can I say? It arrived, brand new, in great condition and we love it!

This Carol was just what I've been looking for in Christmas Stories...The price seemed reasonable and I bought it.....

A charming, nostalgic movie that reminds us that goodness is not gone in today's (or even yesterday's) world! Delightful!

I have had a B&W VHS of it for years, it's a tradition to watch it at 11:00PM Christmas eve, and it never gets old. This new DVD set just makes it that much better, the color version is like watching it for the first time.

This movie is, in my opinion, the best of all the versions of A Christmas Carol. Alistair Sim, for me, IS Scrooge. This has both the black and white and colorized version so you have the best of both worlds. It is not played a lot on TV so I wanted my own copy. Good item, good price, Good deal.

This is the "Xmas" Movie, and the reproduction is superb!
The images are so much better than all of the other versions i have seen!

One of the best versions of Charles Dicken's immortal Christmas story. This is a British production and is set in the proper Victorian setting of the original story. Allistair Sim is wonderful as Scrooge. Dickens would be proud to see this film version of his story.

I have seen this movie many times on TV. Since they stopped airing it I wanted to obtain a copy. This led me to search eabay to locate and purchase a copy. I'm saving it for Dec 25 as I can't stand to watch that stupid movie where the kid wants a gun for Christmas.
