Album Notes Brian Culbertson is a virtual one-man Quiet Storm. A composer adept at both keyboards and trombone, Culbertson has a style that manages to combine both accessibility and creativity, making jazz that's smooth and easygoing, but with plenty of musicianly flair. This two-in-one package pairs A SOULFUL CHRISTMAS and BRINGING BACK THE FUNK. CHRISTMAS will likely melt the heart of any musical Scrooge, combining bits of gospel, blues, and R&B for an ingenious, variety-filled musical sleigh ride. BRINGING BACK THE FUNK's title should be self-explanatory: Culbertson gets back to his roots in 1970s funk with some of the players who originally made it great back in the day. With guests including Bootsy Collins, Larry Graham, and Ray Parker Jr., BRINGING BACK re-explores funk from both the soulful and the jazzy realms.
