Extremely helpful advice for adult children of a narcissistic parent. Practical behaviors that can easily be implimented in order to protect oneself form the damaging effect of that parent's triggers. I couldn't put it down. For once, it puts the focus back where it is supposed to be. Back on strengthening our own boundaries and self. I recommend this read for anyone suffering with a painful relationship with a "self absorbed" parent.

If you have ever wondered why you were dismissed or unvalued by your parents, this is the book for you. It thoroughly explains behaviors of parents who put themselves first, and analyzes how this probably affected you in your adult life. This book hit the bullseye for me. It completely explained the household I was brought up in, and is helping me to understand how I am relating to my children now.

Many answers to some hard to answer questions. This is a common problem for Adults, and it will help me to understand myself better. Further, I can relate to my parent in a more healthy fashion, for myself.

  Good place to start

This is a good book to start with if you want to learn about destructive personality disorders, and particularly if your life is effected by a person with DPD. The person with the disorder will not change, so this book gives ways to cope with someone who is targeting you with their abuse. I say it is a good place to start because even if you employ all the techniques suggested by this author, you will probably need a year or two of psychotherapy. (For those who have been abused all or most of their lives).

  Children of the Self Absorbed

If you had a destructive narcissistic parent, this book is the very BEST! I've gone to counseling and read other books, but when I read Children of the Self Absorbed, it FINALLY addressed the issues that nothing or no one else had a clue about. Even counselors are at a loss because very few understand narcissistic personality disorder, much less the victim's and children's damage from same. This book understands the victims and explained things I've wanted to know for decades. There are also exercises to help one heal. I finally feel understood and helped. I most highly recommend this book. I just ordered it for a family member with obviously the same problems and consequences of horrible parenting.
