Child Training Tips by Reb Bradley (2002, Paperback)

This book is very bible based and is clearly laid out to help a parent understand what rebellion is and how to correct it biblically. We weren't sure how to apply many of the Scriptures we saw, but this book explained them very well. This book says that you discipline for rebellion NOT every wrong action and it should begin when a child understands that they aren't supposed to be doing something so that you don't have a child-run home.
We have tried many forms of discipline for our strong willed 4 yr old child. We have done parenting courses, talked to professionals, talked to people with many children and well behaved children. Nothing seemed to really click for him that turned around his behavior or attitude. Using some of these principles helped immediately. Others we will slowly have to bring into the picture as we work on doing things biblically.
This book also showed us somethings that we needed to correct not only in our parenting but in our attitudes to bring about a right behavior in our son that we were blinded to. Some of it we never would have seen had not this ever been bought to our attention and it was little things that made a huge impact. Simple things that we learn from people are things such as bribery, manipulation, distraction and tricking are things that are encouraged although most of it wouldn't be considered to be that way in today's society unless someone sheds light on it and Reb does that in this book.
The one thing I wish this book had in it would be a section talking about how to explain this to your kids (who can understand) this biblical approach and how it will help them develop into the men and women of God He is calling them to be.
