This self-titled 1991 release highlights the variety of tunes performed by the quintessential Irish folk group. We hear plenty of jigs and reels, and we're also treated to a fine slip jig called "The Boys of Ballisodare." The Chieftains also perform two Irish polkas called "Saint Mary's" and "Church Street."
The beautiful, melancholy slow airs are the real highlights of this record. Perhaps the sweetest of them all is a love ballad called "Se Fath Mo Bhuartha," which is played on two tin whistles. Virtuoso and authentic to the core, the Chieftains are keeping Ireland's rich culture alive.
