It was so refreshing to see a modern day musical. The acting was superb. The movie is full of catchy tunes. The play on journalists is hilarious! It's my favorite part of the movie.

Broadway Meets Academy Awards and the Golden Screen with Chicago. Many mainstream reviews started – or at least included – the word DAZZLING. That word makes sense… the combination of fine acting, excellent and experienced plot, fantastic singing and dancing makes for a ‘dazzling performance.’ Chicago was the IT movie and DVD of 2002 and certainly will have staying-power and should be a staple of any standard DVD collection.

I decided to purchase this DVD a long time ago, after seeing the original stage show in London, just that it took me a while to do it!
It is a moralistic story about corruption, murder and prohibtion in 1920's Chicago. It centers around three main characters, which are played by brilliant and accomplished actors. There is plenty of other interest too and the music, if you like jazz, is superb, the costumes are also excellent and true to the period.
The DVD is very true to the stageshow, but there is slightly more depth on the DVD, which I suppose would be too difficult to reproduce on stage. I am very glad thatI bought this DVD and it is something that I could watch several times.
Buy it you will love it too!

I've always been an adamant fan of musicals, and Chicago happens to be one of my favorites. Unfortunately, the vast majority of directors will take a fantastic musical and turn into a steaming lump of crap when they create a movie version. However, Chicago was able to shy away from this trend and join the likes of The Phantom of the Opera and The Music Man (the original, not the Matthew Broderick version) as an all-time classic.

You'll Love Chicago... And All That Jazz!

I first saw this in theaters a couple years ago with a friend and didn't quite know what to expect... and to be honest first time through I was like ugh - this is feminist crap (they were all talking about killing dudes...eh not so cool in my book ladies).
I enjoyed some of the musical numbers though - my favorite being "We Both Reached For The Gun" - Loved Zellweger!
After seeing it at the movies and talking about it to one of my other friends - he said that the person who wrote CHICAGO originally based it kinda of actual events at the time because women, generally speaking would have less severe punishments then men for the same crime - and often times let go; it kinda shows how corrupt the system was...er, is. Which made the movie more interesting to me and whenever the US Broadway TOUR CHICAGO came to my city I went and saw it.
Maybe it's just me, but personally after you see the movie and it razzle dazzles you - the live production was quite disappointing. Loved the music - the acting, etc. Just that they didn't really have all the lavish costumes and stage settings that I thought they might have after seeing the movie.
Personally I prefer the movie to the live production. It's a great movie and if you love broadway, musicals, and/or history - you will fall in love with CHICAGO! Oh, and girls if you are going through one of your 'I HATE MEN' stages you will love this flick - all the chicks in prison killed dudes - Eek!)

I bought this movie for my mom and sister. They love this movie. I like the use of the songs to show the characters' thoughts, concerns, emotions, and reasoning. There is minimal swearing, which gets in the way sometimes,(being a teacher,I believe that swearing makes you sound incompetent and unimaginative)but otherwise it helps portray the mentality of the characters. The nicer the character, the less they swear. The song and dance numbers were sensational. I especially like Catherine Zeta Jones as an actress, and willingly would watch any movie with her in it. I call her the female version of Sean Connery.
Mainly, the plot surrounds a young lady that gets dumped by her man on the side, and shoots him. Then she tries to use her trial as a ploy to get into the spotlight. She is very egocentric and selfish, yet there are times you see her worry. Every now and then things hit home with her, but she seems to quickly throw the thought aside and continue manipulating everything to get where she wants to go.
The reason I rate this good and not excellent was because the case was broken on the top clasp area. I don't remember there being any mention of it in the auction description. Oh well... buyer beware i guess.

Great quality. Excellent music, & catchy tunes. You'll be humming and singing the songs for days. Very interesting people and scenes. Overall, this is a wonderful movie for the teenaged and up crowd. I really enjoyed it all!
