The Chicago Manual of Style (2003, Hardcover)

I bought this very thick book in January and since then, I have considered it my writing "bible" of sorts. It has helpful tips on dealing with copyright issues, photographs and illustrations, and of course it provides the latest form of citation for every source one could imagine. From published to unpublished materials, writers are given hundreds of pages of guidance for letters, faxes, press releases, interviews, and much more. Other than Strunk and White's thin book on style and grammar, this is a must have for any author!

This is a great book, especially if you can get a good deal on it, because it is so helpful in editing. It is very large, so it might seem daunting at first to crack it open. But it is pretty well organized, and I have appreciated having it. I also love the cd-rom version, but I don't personally have a copy of that. It's good, though, to have a paper copy that you can hold in your hands and really dive into.

The Chicago Manual of Style (2003) is the Bible of manuscript preparation. It is the book to have if you are serious about writing a novel. This version instucts the writer on the how-tos of manuscript preparation on elecronic devices. A must have for the aspiring writer.

I bought this book because a company board member suggested it. I work for a non-profit organization and we are often very casual about our letter writing. Since we deal with many people and many organizations, it seemed to be a good choice to standardize and improve my writing.

This book covers many diverse topics such as: fonts, foreign language, religeous and military terminology as well as the more common subjects of usage and punctuation.

Since this is a 1 person office and I come from a scientific background, this book will be especially useful.

I liked the condition of the CMS when it was delivered. This book was advertised as new and was delivered as such. I've used it extensively for class and could tell that it had not been used before.

It provides the standard for formatting and style. It's not the easiest work to find your way around, and it could be much more logically arranged. But it has the information you need, once you get there. It is a must-have for any writer, researcher, or graduate student not working under APA guidelines.

I bought this book because I am a freelance editor. Mostly I have been working with NY Times style manual, but all roads really lead back to Chicago Manual of Style. It was just time to buy it.
At first it seems complex to use - not as user-friendly as NY Times style book, which is sorted alphabetically. This manual is much more comprehensive though and quickly became the definitive authority on style and usage. Any writer, editor, teacher, and student should own it.

I bought the Chicago Manual Of Style because I am an aspiring journalist and I am taking a course in magazing writing. Many magazines follow the Chicago style for their production. The book is extremely helpful and detailed. I have no complaints at all.
